Barney Frank: Straight and Gay Soldiers Must Shower Together, But Not Men and Women Tuesday, December 21, 2010 By Nicholas Ballasy
(CNSNews.com) - Rep. Barney Frank (D.-Mass.) says he agrees with the recommendation of a Department of Defense (DOD) working group that straight and gay military personnel of the same gender should be required to shower together when the repeal of the Dont Ask, Dont Tell law goes into effect.
Frank, however, said Armed Forces personnel of opposite sexes should not shower together.
What do you think happens in gyms all over America? What do you think happens in the House of Representatives? Of course people shower with homosexuals. What a silly issue. What do you think goes wrong with showering with homosexuals? Do you think the spray makes it catching? I mean people shower with homosexuals in college dormitories, in gyms where people play sports; in gyms elsewhere. It is a complete non-issue. Frank told CNSNews.com.
CNSNews.com then asked Frank why he thinks it is a non-issue.
To accept the principle that homosexuals cant shower with other people is a degree of discrimination that goes far beyond this. We dont get ourselves dry cleaned. We tend to take showers when we go to the gym; when we play sports, he responded.
Rep. Frank continued, The notion that knowing that someone is gay or lesbian as opposed to knowing that they are gay or lesbian people that have to pretend who they are; that that somehow makes a difference is pretty silly,
Frank was also asked if he thinks male and female military personnel should be able to shower together.
No that would disrupt people, he said.

I was on Subs.
I have been on war games with Army and Marines.
You throw down a palate and hang a tarp on the side a tank or whatever. Also Baby wipes are your friend.
Showering with Denise Richards regularly is something that many of us would do not only to save water (even straight guys can be conservationists) but for our country.
Scatological language is, for better or worse, part of the normal “friendly harassment” that is visited upon recruits during basic training. But the whole dynamic changes when it’s a flaming fag doing the bathroom talk. It’s not man-to-man any more, it’s queer-to-man.
Pohakula Training Area (PTA) on the Big Island of Hawaii had open bay showers.
Unisex is great for handicapped folks or parents with a young child of the opposite sex. It’s usually a spacious one holer and you can safely send a kid in without worrying what a creep might do to them.
Or, as Rahm Emanuel demonstrated the Congresscritters themselves get “weiner bumps”.
Will the tickle parties be mandatory as well?
So does every High school in the country.
Our poor kids are subjected to this all the time, but somehow this is going to be the Achilles heel of our great military.
Of course this is an unnecessary diversion to the readiness of our troops, but somehow I dont think it will have the impact that everyone seems to fear.
“We used to clean em up with a GI Brush and Lava soap”
Never been there myself, But I hear that enlisted personnel have a method of controlling offensive behavior in the Barracks. It’s called a “Blanket Party”. Not sure how often this is applied in the “NEW” Military.
One of my troopers, a 30-something E-5, used to time his showers so that he was in the open bay shower when certain young lower-enlisted troops were in the shower at the same time. 30 shower heads in 4 rows, with the two in the middle facing each other, and he'd always pick the one where he was as close as possible and facing the other guy. One time he showed up at the CP and asked, where's Valdez? When he'd learn that Valdez had just left for the shower, he'd run to catch up. Needless to say, Valdez, and others would do everything they could to shower when this guy wasn't around.
When I was at the academy, they had shower bays like a big HS gym would. There weren’t any stalls.
I had a classmate get caught on a beach in Hawaii en flagrante delicto with another of the same gender during our Junior summer, and it got him bounced.
He was trying to make something like pregnancy happen by shooting genetic material into the wrong hole of another male shipmate.
It makes a difference. The idea of another guy in the shower with you that you KNOW is interested in the view is extremely offputting.
When we didn’t know, we didn’t care, because EVERYONE GETS THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT, which is a point lost on the velvet mafia. Perhaps they get the point, but don’t care about what it does to morale.
OMG ! I wonder if the aroused Marine got beat up or talked to ? Makes for a very uncomfortable situation
There has been times where I had to shower in a large room shower with other men. I usually did was go in, shower and clean up and then get the hell out and definitely keep to myself !
Place I use to work at, they put in a workout facility but I never used it. The womens locker room had individual showers where as the mens locker room had a gang shower. It is bad enough dealing with some people and some I don’t like but to share the same shower area, no way ! Where I work at now, we have one but there are individual shower stalls so I use the shower after working out.
> When I was in the Marines, a long while ago, there was a certain Marine who seem to always be showering, no matter who went in to shower. And, every time I went in to shower, that certain Marine would always be in the aroused state. And, it was the same problem with just about every other Marine that I talked to about the problem. They too noticed that he always seemed to be showering whenever they went in, and that he was always in the aroused state. That certain Marine would take the longest showers, making sure that he was in there for the length of time that it took for every other Marine to shower.
brytlea,
Enjoyed the pictures on your ABOUT page.
For a second I thought the bird was an anhinga, but the bill is wrong. It’s not a frigate is it?
I suspect that sort of thing will still get you bounced.
No one is going to tolerate the disruption.
First, queer lovers in uniform with guns is a recipe for death. Second queers in uniform professing queer pride is a recipe for death.
The short answer is that proud queers in the military will have a statistically higher rate of death by friendly fire than queers who understand the safety of DADT. Also, queers can no longer be honorably discharged for being queer. How is that a win for the queer world?
Um, I went to a Co-ed College - Men and Women showered next to each other all the time in the dorms....They are called Shower Stalls.
You walk in - lock the door - pull the curtain and take a shower right next to the opposite sex.
If this crap goes through they should demand separate showers for both sexes - heck, they should do that anyways...communal showering is stupid - it’s like communal crapping.
Is Barney crying for homo’s to go to the bathroom next to Hetero’s? NO - it’s called toilet stalls...
I agree.
The bathing facilities and barracks available for housing in those places are COMMUNAL and OPEN.
Then there are the training areas with NO FACILITIES ~
That's exactly what needs to be done. Heterosexual males forced to share quarters and to shower with homosexual males should file discrimination lawsuits for being treated differently than heterosexual women who aren't required to share quarters and to shower with men. Heterosexual females forced to share quarters and to shower with lesbians should do the same thing.
Sure, it gets complicated. That's because the whole social engineering thing is an exercise in abject stupidity.
