Katie Couric is in early talks on a new contract with CBS Corp. that could see the CBS Evening News anchor take a pay cut while expanding her role at the company, Bloomberg reported, citing anonymous sources.
The network began meeting with Couric's agent at CAA early this month, according to Bloomberg, which reported that both parties have agreed that Couric must take a pay cut to remain at CBS, whose evening news lags behind NBC and ABC in the ratings with a nightly average of 5.7 million viewers.
In addition, viewership for CBS' news program has dropped by 24% from when Couric took over in 2006, a bigger drop than both NBC and ABC have experienced during that same period.
It's not clear what Couric's expanded role at the company might entail; she currently takes assignments for CBS' "60 Minutes" in addition to her Evening News duties.
"Katie is enjoying herself at CBS and is proud of her award-winning show," her spokesman told Bloomberg. A CBS spokesman declined to comment.
Couric, who is scheduled to appear on Fox's Glee in February, also is reportedly being pursued by several syndicators to host a daytime talk show.
IMO, she’s worth minimum wage. Let her live like the little people she mocks.

The “profession” of journalism is like Kindergarten soccer:
EVERYONE gets an award.
They would not have to do a thing if they FIRED her!
Probably a rumor started by her agent. If not, I'd start shorting CBS stock.

Yeah, that'll work. Since the ratings show the publik can't stand her face, give her more face time.
These Alphabets have a nationwide farm system in their affiliates, but nobody ready for prime time out there. Just Katie.
Better idea for SeeBs and their bottom line: Dump the entire news division. SeeS has not reported news for decades anyway. Been nothing but a front for DemonRat propaganda.
Why can’t the TV executives just admit they made a mistake.
She isn’t bringing in the ratings. They could do just as well hiring the local TV anchor from Buffalo (I have no idea who that is, but I gurantee they wouldn’t do any worse than Couric, and cost 1/10 the amount).
You deserve it biotch! Oh and it doesn’t surprise me that this washed up hag is showing up on the Palin-bashing Glee show. So glad I’m not dating my ex anymore because I don’t have to watch that crapy show.
Great idea would be to put her out to pasture. She is worthless.
I wish they would rehire Dan Rather, but only if he broadcasts wearing a clown nose.
I would offer this woman exactly NOTHING. She could do it for the face time and find other ways to cash in elsewhere (books, endorsements, etc.). I’d say, “Here’s what you’re worth to us.”
And she’d take it.
Expand her role????? Great, give me some more reasons NOT to watch her network.
Hey, that would actually be a good idea for CBS. Every night, have a new recent 'communications' graduate anchor the Evening News. For free.

They just can’t admit that they made a big mistake promoting her to head anchor, can they?
I see the phrase 'F*** Up, Move Up' is alive and well in the State Run Media.
