Obama can delay START until the next Congress and he might get some cooperation out of the House.
If he doesn't delay a ratification vote until then he will get NO cooperation out of the House. When that happens a treaty usually languishes unappreciated until it's finally ignored.
I doubt Obama realizes that.
Oh, yeah, he has to pull back on that DADT stuff as well ~ that's linked to START.
He has his choices ~ watch his head explode.

The full text from the video, as released, reads as follows:
Thanks so much for the Caucus4Priorities, for the great work you’ve been doing. As president, I will end misguided defense policies and stand with Caucus4Priorities in fighting special interests in Washington.
First, I’ll stop spending $9 billion a month in Iraq. I’m the only major candidate who opposed this war from the beginning. And as president I will end it.[i.e. not win it]
Second, I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending.
I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems.
I will not weaponize space.
I will slow our development of future combat systems.
And I will institute an independent “Defense Priorities Board” to ensure that the Quadrennial Defense Review is not used to justify unnecessary spending.
***Third, I will set a goal of a world without nuclear weapons.
To seek that goal, I will not develop new nuclear weapons; I will seek a global ban on the production of fissile material; and
I will negotiate with Russia to take our ICBMs off hair-trigger alert, and to achieve deep cuts in our nuclear arsenals.
You know where I stand. I’ve fought for open, ethical and accountable government my entire public life. I don’t switch positions or make promises that can’t be kept. I don’t posture on defense policy and I don’t take money from federal lobbyists for powerful defense contractors. Here’s a first- I just sent Rush an email hollering at him.
He’s discussing the show’s new iphone app and then right into some nonsense about Donavan McNab...football etc,
Gee- what shall I cover today...the demise of the US defense system or some football player?
Decisions...decisions...
And he deserved it ... blathering on while our
country implodes .. not giving folks ideas on what
to do. IT WILL TAKE MUCH MORE THAN
WORDS TO GET OUR COUNTRY BACK.
He could at least attempt to be a source for
strategy, action plans, etc.
Bottom line: brilliant businessman, not a tactician
Just like our health, we have to do it ourselves, and
somehow or another, IT WILL BE DONE.
Remind them of their earmarks position and how it can be used against them in 2012.
An incumbent, in this climate, having refused to forgo earmarks and having voted against the will of his constituents will have a tough time facing crowds of angry voters at town halls.
