A Clayton County mother of six said the family dog did what he always did when he saw someone. He barked.
But when "Boomer" started barking and running toward a police officer Saturday morning, the officer shot the dog and killed it, Lawrene King told the AJC Sunday night.
Hes a golden retriever," King said. "He barks, but hes never bitten anyone.
A Clayton County police officer was on foot patrol on North Shore Drive when the dog jumped off a porch and started barking and running toward the officer, Capt. Tina Daniel said. The officer ordered the dog to stop and when it didn't, the officer shot and killed the animal in its yard, Daniel said.
The officer, whose name was not released, was responding to a call reporting a suspicious person, police said.

Oh, MF. Gonna start using some bad language.
Treat her right and she is a cuddler, invade the property and beware.
your continued ignorance is astounding
This is the same guy who denied knowing mail carriers routinely use mace and pepper spray to protect themselves against dogs...
Hey, dipstick ... you’re interjecting responses into a debate from hours upon hours ago. If I cared what you thought, I’d have responded to your first random interjection. Let it go.

That is why I have never allowed my canines out when they sensed and announced a threat. I kept them locked up in the house and I went out to investigate. Here in the country, people allow their dogs to run free, socialize w/each other and, in general, have a good time. I don’t do that. My canines are stuck w/an overprotective mommy. Nobody messes w/my little family. (Please excuse grouchiness. This really p’s me off.) Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all the FReepers!
That means to cover 25 feet he'd need .85 seconds, 50 feet he could do in 1.7 seconds, and 60 feet could e done in about 2 seconds.
As I suspected, if this officer could draw and fire and lay a round on target he'd need about 2 seconds (based on all sorts of references to how fast you are expected to do that in contests).
What that means is if this officer took 2 seconds to draw, he had his hand on his gun when the dog was still on the porch!
If he waited until the dog was coming at him top speed, the dog would have been on him at 50 or 60 feet Fur Shur.
Or, worse, the officer had his pistol in hand before he ever saw the dog.
Interesting. Again, I say this dude is TOAST!
Things change.
Outsmarting the Clavin types at every turn as well.

My letter carriers are yet to be of the Quran persuasion. Allah help them.
In all seriousness, it is the responsibility of a real man to know the ways of dogs. Unfortunately, so many men have become so feminized that they have become frightened of dogs and do not know how to properly handle even mildly aggressive ones.
A golden retriever? This officer needs to turn in his man card.
“This is not visible?”
I dunno, what does it look like on a hairy barking dog that’s charging at you, and where does it say “INVISIBLE FENCE” in nice big letters that someone can read so they don’t mistake it for something else in the few seconds they have to make a shoot/no shoot decision ?
Does this gizmo count with regards to the “leash or voice command” part of the leash law?
My Friends? Those would appear to be your friends.
They are your friends and are willing to go to the mat to protect you from Allah. ismlaites.
The cop is toast. He almost certainly had to have been skulking around with his pistol in hand!
Normal dog, on the porch, leaping up, running at you 60 feet away, you got 2 seconds at most to pull and fire!
Thank you Joe. A similar thing happened in my town not long ago. Why don’t they use a taser, I thought it could ‘shoot’ at a distance!! People shouldn’t let their dogs run free.
