Obama's social experiment would have devastating effects on the finest military force the world has ever known.
At issue is a pending vote in the Senate on repealing Section 654 of Title X of the U.S. Code. This law, on the books since 1993, states: "The presence in the armed forces of persons who demonstrate a propensity or intent to engage in homosexual acts would create an unacceptable risk to the high standards of morale, good order and discipline, and unit cohesion that are the essence of military capability."
The authors acknowledge that 67 percent of all Marines, more than 60 percent of special-operations personnel, and 57 percent of soldiers in Army combat units believe changing the law would hurt military efficiency, unit cohesion, readiness, and retention. Overall, 35 percent of service members deployed overseas said that changing the law in current circumstances would have a negative impact on combat effectiveness. And, perhaps most telling, nearly one-third of all those who are now part of the best-educated, best-trained, and most-combat-experienced military in history will consider "getting out" rather than serve side by side with openly homosexual men or lesbians.

When your approval rating is in the teens, you just don’t care. We’re getting closer to a time of pitchforks and torches.
That's their agenda.
Can't think of a good one I've ever heard of in Congress.
Bump!
How hasd this worked out in with the IDF? I remember reading an article in the NYT which said (of course) that all was hunky-dory but haven’t read anything on gays in the israeli forces for a long time.
The military should have as much say
as you Americans. ... NONE.
Once again I would like to add that this FIGHT is not over; We conservatives in the next Congress need to call Congressional-Hearnings; and really highlight to both the Military and the Public (as well as the elites in the media), the REAL and negative effects this will have on our military..
Does anyone have any links to how this has effected the British Military or others..?
Mighty fine looking drapes you’ve put up there, Soldier. Thank you, Sir, I sewed them myself.
Putting the agenda of a small group of activists ahead of the will of the American people is what this administration is all about.
MORAL ABSOLUTES *(ping)
So at the Marine Corps Ball, we’ll have lesbos doing the cha-cha and the queers doing the tango.
Makes me wanna puke up codfish bones.
What good are pitchforks and torches when the military cannot even defend itself, neither at Fort Hood nor in the shower? Homosexuals and Atheists have left the foxholes and taken over our liberty.
The core of this issue is not about so called, “homosexuals” but about the First Amendment right to dissent. Anyone who does will now be guilty of “discrimination”.
Your “government” has just taken sides in the age old debate on original sin and the government sided with the sinners. Objection=discrimination.
Discrimination against believers in the word of God are now guilty without trial. The official persecution has just begun.
Your fate is now in the hands of Janet Nepolitano, Ellen Degeneress, Lily Tomlin et al.
There will be no mercy from those who are already willfully separated from God.
Merry Christmas from the Rinos and Democrats. Sodomy in our rear ends without the decency of consent or lubricant. Merciless fascism.

To put it bluntly. “This sucks.”
Bingo. Gay Marriage and repealing DADT officially normalizes homosexuality. As such, gay military personnel now will be able to show gay affection openly, including at formal dances and other events. Whether or not they will actually do it remains to be seen but any objection to it will be seen as discrimination or even a hate crime.
What a mess this is going to be, and what incredible idiots in congress for forcing this. They have indeed unleashed a pandora’s box.
For many years - everyone who enlisted to serve in the military was required to read a statement that the policy of the military was that the gay lifestyle was antithetical to military, and would be a cause for discharge from the military.
IMHO - this represents a “contract” - a condition of service - that goes BOTH WAYS.
If the Congress decides to drop that contractual requirement, then perhaps everyone presently serving in the military should be given the option to ask and receive an honorable discharge from military service - since Congress has changed the contract!
If we loose 30% or more of our military - so what. It’s not like we have a country worth fighting and dying for any more.
