The Senate has just voted to end debate on a bill that would lift the ban on gays serving openly in the military, essentially clearing the measure for passage and signature by the president.
Lawmakers voted 63 to 33 to end debate on the current policy, put in place by former president Bill Clinton, informally known as "don't ask don't tell."
The Senate could vote on final passage of the measure as early as today but it will most likely happen on Sunday or Monday.
"We are on the verge of ending 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' for good," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said after the vote "This is one of those moments in our history when we stepped up and squared our policies with the values this nation was founded upon."

WTF???? Our nation was founded on gay rights? Pardon the french, but BS!!!!!!!!!!!
Bingo. Chief, I think you hit the nail on the head. With the military it has always been “get the job done - cheap”. Back when I served, nobody asked and you sure as hell did not tell. Blanket parties took care of any dangling participles; and, by God, they worked!!!
So exactly how long has it been since you were in a communal shower with someone of the same sex eyeing you and your equipment as a potential sex partner? Easy to say when it's someone else's humiliation.
When you're a civilian you can be a lot more flexible about where you go and when you go.
In the military you go where they send you and HAVE to use the facilities that are provided. There's no two ways about it.
How long has it been since you were in the military exactly?
YOU BET IT IS.
We should not be shutting up and not talking about their agenda because a name which does not make sense might be hurled at us.
Tell everyone what their agenda is.
Let it be known how they will now use this to now overturn DOMA.
Once they do that then it is teach fisting to little kids.
Then making Revs etc to marry them.
Then comes the granddaddy of all.
Speak against them and you can be jailed for hate crimes.
Not that is a ridiculous analogy. LOL!
How soon until we get “political officers” in every unit kind of like the Russians?
Think that if you’d like but the battle is an up hill one and denying that only makes it more of one. Once they get these “rights” it’ll be extremely unlikely we ever take them back.
How can a military that is so stymied by political correctness that nobody will report a guy who’s BUSINESS CARD says he’s a jihadist until he shoots up Ft.Hood possibly be trusted to fairly enforce rules of conduct on another ‘favored and protected’ group?
You are by far the biggest F’in idiot on this thread.
“Yes, we’re taking names today. I heard there were four. My guess would be the Maine sisters (Snowe and Collins), Brown, and Kirk.”
Although Kirk campaigned that he would vote against it, don’t count on it.

I’m just wondering if switches to the rat party before or after he comes out of the closet.
Anyone rabidly pro-abortion doesn't have the moral fiber to be trusted on anything else.
I am sick of being on the defensive and must appear sympathetic towards homosexuals and those who are sympathetic to homosexuals who wish to destroy and deconstruct Judeo/Christian values. You have no idea of the can of worms that are opening right now.
Now that Republicans control the House, it doesn’t matter whether they have 46 senate seats or 40. Those quislings who supported this madness MUST be purged from the GOP. The most infuriating is Murkowski. Joe Miller must be a complete moron to have lost to her on a write-in campaign, when there were issues like this that he could have hung around her neck.
As for the legal impact of today’s vote, it is going to be impossible to defeat homosexual marriage in the courts now that the government has sanctioned homosexuality in the military. The end of the Republic is not far off. And so the USA follows in the footsteps of Rome.
Thanks! I thought for a moment I was. Now when was it that you served again?
No, that’s not what you said — but your restatement makes a tad more sense. However I doubt you or anyone will donate ALL of their money to anything. You do need to eat.
need a wall of shame and put their names on this site for all to see and lets fight them to get them fired and know they have sold out to a homosexual activist special interest group and ignored the wishes of our men and women or most of them
Unfortunately that is starting already. Basically only three 4 stars in ALL four services have talked about how wrong this is. We have approximately 50 4-star admirals over the four services and we heard from THREE!
How about Hatch and Gregg, two little RINOs who -— whoops! — abstained.
And, they have been able to serve under DADT so the point is a straw man.
Heterosexuals in the military. They shouldn't have to undress, shower and share living quarters with someone that may have an unwanted sexual attraction to them.
Further, allowing open homosexuals in the military guarantees more sexual activity, more STDs and more sexual harassment.
BTW, God expects us to handle things on earth and ban or restrict harmful behavior. Your opinion isn't remotely Christian.
