Dems' deflated dreams
NY Post ^ | December 18, 2010 | Editorial

Scarcely two years ago, the DemoCratic Party was in the driver's seat.

Or so it seemed.

Barack Obama had just won the biggest victory by a Democratic presidential candidate since Lyndon Johnson in 1964, and the party had rolled up huge margins in both the House and Senate (eventually gaining the all-important 60 seats in the upper body).

Who'd have thought that, 48 months later, Obama would be signing an extension of the Bush-era tax cuts that he had demonized in 2008 -- and spinning the humiliation as a win?

Who could have imagined that -- despite still controlling Congress -- Democrats would be forced to yank a $1.1 trillion pork-laden spending bill off the Senate floor?

Instead, they'll have to pass a smaller, interim measure -- leaving it to the in coming Republicans to present a more restrained version.

Meanwhile, Democrats are marshaling their depleted forces this weekend in an effort to rescue what remains of their once-ambitious agenda -- the DREAM Act that many see as quasi-amnesty for illegal aliens; a repeal of the ban on gays serving openly in the armed services, and START, a '70s-style nuclear-arms-con trol treaty.

What the hell happened?

ObamaCare, for one thing.

Sure, it became law -- but not before enraging the swath of America between the west bank of the Hudson River and the Pacific Coast Ranges.

You know: The part that pretty much glowed cherry-red on Election Day.

The mountains of debt created by Obama, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid didn't help the Democrats either -- nor did the multitrillion-dollar deficit increases projected for the years immediately ahead.

I don't think it's entirely spin. The tax rate extension bill is really a lose-lose deal with neither side getting much to feel excited about but if anybody can say they got the better of it, it is Obama and the Dems.

If Obama was a REAL leader, like Reagan, the liberals would have single-payer, DADT, Dream, Card-Check, Cap-n-Trade, etc all enacted in Obama’s first 100 days.

Instead, Obama sat on the sidelines and did nothing until healthcare looked like a completely lost cause and they rammed it through with incredible arm-twisting and questionable tactics.

Bottom line: We are fortunate to have a man-child as president.

It is a humiliation for them. A leftist Democratic President ratified the key Bush domestic policy. And with the collapse of their cram through, the only things left on the liberal wish list are things no one cares about enough that people want those things to become a reality. And therein lies the Democrats’ problem.

The Democrats still have us bt the balls until Jan. 3 and they are squeezing them hard.

The 4 POS Repblicans who have sold out straight America to the queers should never be allowed to forget this DADT vote.

They’ll gladly swallow some crow to get more unemployment compensation time, more ethanol funding, and billions more in assorted pork-—much more than what was in the omnibus.

The Dems are very crass and craven people. They will beg, grovel, or do whatever it takes to get what they want. They don’t seem to understand “dignity,” “class,” or “pride” like we do.

Which party to the agreement lied from day one about what he would and would never do? Find that liar and you have found the loser. Stop listening to the media... and especially people like charles krauthammer... an extreme liberal paid to infect the Conservative community with marxist thoughts. Just saying in general and not pointed at you... for the record.

I made up my mind about that bill as soon as I found out what was in it and before I heard any media comments about it.

Some of us around here know how to think for ourselves.

I don’t like it and I’ll never like it. A two year extension isn’t crap. And the pork! And I am sure Obama will be the main beneficiary of it.

Watch the polls-—he’ll get a nice boost out of the tax bill. “Independent” lovers of “bipartisanship” will come over to his side again-—for a while, anyway.

BTW, on the subject of the media....there is no way to tell how many do it but there is no doubt that PLENTY of them lurk here and then use what we write in their own columns and on their shows. I’ve caught them doing it several times.

That “listening” thing works both ways.

——Which party to the agreement lied from day one about what he would and would never do? -——

The President did not lie from day one, ie purposely make statements that lacked truth.

There are several expressions that reflect the problem and are part of the folk lexicon.

“He bit off more than he could chew”, “His reach exceeded his grasp” ...... he was deluded.

The lies began at the signing when he and his minions are failing to cover up the debacle.

No matter what the legislation is...if Harry, Nancy, or “O” have anything to do with it, it’s going to be bad for the USA.

You are totally right about the 4 POS’s. They are the reasons why we even have to sweat commie crap being passed in lameduck. Why would anyone vote on any commie crap with just a few days until the New congress arrives?

Because they themselves are commies, just like their friends across the aisle.

Few people would have thought this would happen in 48 months.

But even fewer, including this writer, actually think it did happen in 48 months.

That's because it is NOT 24 MONTHS SINCE HIS ELECTION.

IT's ONLY 25 MONTHS SINCE NOVEMBER 2008.

IDIOTS!
