A dash cam video from the officer who shot and killed Native American woodcarver John T. Williams was released Friday, showing Williams ambling slowly across the street in a crosswalk before the officer opens fire.

I live in Alaska, and a very good “native” friend of mine is named John T. Williams, although I haven’t seen him in several years.
He is a wood carver, and it did look like him when he walked in the crosswalk past the dash cam.
Now I have to figure out a way to find out if it was him.
That cop needs to go to prison imo. He was looking for a fight.
Is it illegal, punishable by DEATH, to “carve in public” in Washington state?
MFers
MFers
MFers
I wonder how far from the statue of Lenin in Seattle, this state sponsored murder occurred?
Yes, that is what they are claiming.
It is a complete cover up.
That cop is a %$#@!!*&&
I think he should be drug tested.
Maybe he was hyped up on something.
He was hopped up on power.
yeah, you are probably right.
This is so sad..
I do woodcarving as well, and have often carved in public.
Well, that one ticks me off more than this one, and here is the reason: It was in front of WITNESSES and the video mysteriously disapears. At least in this case they released the video and it wasn’t done with a blatant disregard for witnesses, since there really were not any.
The lady walking by seemed completely disinterested until she heard the first shot.
Don’t watch the video of the cop shooting the biker in the back robroy posted.
It will only make you cry.
I was stunned by how “out of it” she was.
Yeah I suspect roid rage or something as a contributing factor too.
Hey me too. Pioneer Square (slightly south in a tall brick one across from the old King Dome (before the earthquake.) 1998-2000. Creative company though. Seems like I did a lot of clam chowder soup bowls for lunch and watch the bums sleep and shuffle. Hey is Elliot Bay Bookstore still there? Are you working on the eastside now?
Not sure what happened to him, but I used to see him all the time, I worked downtown for like ten years.
Saw him usually walking up and down the hills between 4th and 5th ave.
Right near the jail!!
And apparently, this fellow who just got shot is a halfway famous woodcarver in the native culture - historical retrospective group. So it’s not at all like he’s an unknown drifter who just appeared out of nowhere or something.
Seven seconds IS NOT enough time for the cop to come to a conclusion about what’s going on.
I cannot be convinced it is anything but murder. Payback for Lakewood?
Who knows.
Weird to see the guy just sitting there on his bike and then falling over from the gunshot.
Then the officer pretends the downed man is a threat and effects a posture as if he is sneaking up on him.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH for posting this.
Now I KNOW it was NOT my friend John.
BUT he sure as H was somebody’s friend and relative.
He may have been a drunk, but he didn’t deserve to die this way.
People who doubt that cops have to shoot people who are wielding knives against them are ignorant.
There is a VERY good reason that edged weapons are the same fall as firearms. But in this case it seems unlikely to have happened.
The JURY will decide.
May the Lord have mercy on his family and friends and may HE bring to rest your tormented soul Mr. Williams.
Exactly. I wonder what her statement described.
Eastside now, but we bought a farm in rural KY the week before Urkel was elected. We moved all our stuff out there and hope to move their permanently in the next month or so. My company lets me telecommute from there from time to time.
powdered donuts?
Then I sure hope that you are VERY careful if you ever go to Seattle.
I have “hippy” friends who when they need money in the summer go down to where the tourists are and carve faces on Cottonwood bark.
Somebody always makes them an offer, and they always take it.
Afterall they NEED their bottle or whatever.
I wasn’t kidding about being careful btw.
The world is insane.
