A dash cam video from the officer who shot and killed Native American woodcarver John T. Williams was released Friday, showing Williams ambling slowly across the street in a crosswalk before the officer opens fire.

Looks to me like officer Birk did not wait for any facts.
Get back to me when it happens. Seen this kind of thing play out time and again. Union will back him to the hilt. If he actually serves time, it will be a miracle.
Nope...swords, machete’s, hunting knives, baseball bats....and lots of other things but I’ve never had a reason to stop someone for whitling.
I’m waiting to see what the reason for the stop was before I make a personal judgement.
But everyone is free to jump to conclusions based on perceptions, preconceived notions, and personal biases.
If they were at arms length it is because Birk placed himself there.
He chased the guy down.
See post 137 and every post by that poster,
so what do we have - a wimp that never should had had a badge and gun - or an Indian hater glad to have an excuse...
Me thinks the latter definitely and the former absolutely!
He flat out tells the other cops it is because he was carving this board and would not put down the knife.
When all the other cops arrived on the scene I think I heard one say “yeah, we’re gonna approach him and if he moves we’re gonna shoot him again.” Did anyone else hear that?
read the other news accounts provided by posters and listen and look very carefully at the car cam -
the cop had no reason to go after him in the first place...just walking down the street carving a piece of wood like 6 generations of his forefathers before him.
He was NOT SHOT in the front - 4 bullets in the side.
He never knew what was happening.
The victim was known in the area for many years as a carver of tiny totem poles.
I’ve seen someone get shot by an opposing gang member. Victim was “South Side” and suspect was “Central District.”
Central District is referred to as “CD” pronounced “Cee Dee”
The report read that the suspect was yelling “CD” just before shooting the victim.
The crime reporter on the top news radio station in this area reported that the victim was shot over an argument compact disc.”
Now, I could see a lay person making that mistake, but we count on the media to be semi accurate and knowledgeable about stuff they report on.
That is but one example of how reality is portrayed innacurately by the media.
So, like I said, I’m witholding judgement until I see the reason for the officer’s stop.
If he had a legitimate reason for stopping Mr. Williams, then what unfolded may be ruled justified.
If not, then he will have a hard time not facing charges.
I did. He says:
“Im witholding judgement til I have all the facts.”
That is a good point. If I see a guy with a knife that is threatening me and I'm carrying a gun, I am not going to close the distance between him and me.
It’s absolutely despicable what happened to this man. We are increasingly becoming a totalitarian society and those who have badges are abusing their authority more and more.
The man was handicapped, did not hear well and in addition, had other problems.
Read post 133.
It isn’t about this topic. It is about stimulus and response. It is about reacting like Pavlov’s dogs. Doesn’t anyone think anymore?
Post 21 was the first link to any factual information and even that is only a start. Not everyone is up on the topic. There are plenty of people across the nation that have never heard of the case.
Pick any topic. Taxes, DADT, anything. Separate out facts from opinion. Then have an opinion based on facts.
The inquest is scheduled to start Jan. 10. Put it on your calendar and start a thread then. I am sure that a lot here would follow that thread.
He is in deep Kim Chee.
I saw enough to know what I saw.
Reports say he fired from approximately 10 feet.
