WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama saluted a new spirit of political compromise Friday as he signed into law a huge tax bill extending cuts for all Americans -- including benefits for the rich that he and congressional liberals had denounced -- along with billions of dollars in help for the middle class and jobless workers.
"It's a good deal for the American people; this is progress and that's what they sent us here to achieve," Obama said as a rare bipartisan assembly of lawmakers looked on.
The package retains Bush-era tax rates for all taxpayers, from the working poor to the wealthiest. It also offers 13 months of extended benefits to the unemployed and attempts to stimulate the economy with a Social Security payroll tax cut for all workers.

Where were the Dem leaders? They are usually standing behind the Won jocking for a face shot! None there except for Biden. The short midget lady was not there nor Pelosi or Reid. The Repubs got the pens.

Spirit of compromise???? No mention of Pelosi and Reid boycotting the signing ceremony.

Oddly, the headline does not read OBAMA SIGNS EXTENSION OF BUSH-CHENEY REGIME TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH.

I would like to know who voted each way...where do I find that? Of course I realize that many reps change their votes once they see how it is going so they can be on the winning side. Their real position is often reflected in preceeding ‘test’ votes. This works effectively to fool voters!

Notice how they caved when we were about to find out what was in the porkulus bill.

Not much of a compromize, more like the Republican presented the bill to Obama and said “please sign where indicated, SIR” just saying.
Compromise, the new word for extortion. Cool.
chuckie thinks a trillion in new spending is going to stimulate the economy (the other 3.3 trillion in spending has done nothing but depress the economy further into the abyss) and obama will get the credit... but chuckie is on so much dope that he is not thinking straight... the omnibutt bill with 1.3 trillion in NEW spending... is dead. The tax extension bill only has 283 billion in new spending so it is not a trillion... but the liberal chuckie krauthammer sees an extension of the tax rates in effect for a decade now... as NEW spending that somehow will stimulate the economy. All it will do is it will cause no further decline in the economy by itself... but no stimulus will be seen and I have now put krauthammer in the same league as carville and beckel. Hey chuck... if you are reading this... FU chuck!" LLS
