Thats because those little red pills (of pseudoephedrine) are used to make meth.
So, then, because those little pills are behind the counter and require ID, extrapolating: there is no more meth being manufactured in basements or garages.
[In actuality, putting those pills behind the counter has NOT slowed or stopped meth labs. In fact, one was shut down just 3 blocks from me about 3 years ago.]

Even more absurd is the fact that by trying to prevent the meth makers from getting massive amounts of the little red pills off the open shelves, the fools in law enforcement took away one of their best means to trail the pseudoephedrine back to the meth labbers!
Decades ago I represented a company that made Drixoral, which had 120 mg of pseudoephedrine in the time released formulation. Back then interns and nurses who partied all weekend and got little or no sleep would take the tabs and chew them, downing the grit with orange juice, to get the jolt of the pseudoephedrine that kept them going. It leads to heart disease, but those folks didn't care at their age.
