Senate Majority Leader Harry Reids decision Thursday evening to pull the 1,924-page, $1.27 trillion omnibus spending bill may indeed be a seminal moment, as Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said, in the fight vs. earmarks and swollen government spending in general. For McCain and fellow budget hawks such as Tom Coburn and Jim DeMint who fought the long, lonely battle vs. pork-barrel politics, I can imagine they had the same mix of relief and satisfaction as everyones favorite rebel:

Stay vigilant. Reid never saw a spending bill that he didn't love. It will be back, in the middle of the night, when no one is watching.
The fact that Reid even introduced the bill and then withdrew it should make every conservative watch what Reid does, not what he says.
Don’t be fooled. It was pulled to allow votes on DADT and DREAM to happen, which would have otherwise been delayed by the promised reading on the Senate floor of the omnibus bill.
For those keeping score at home, the lame duck congress is in position to pass a slew of items that were postponed past the election to avoid further losses, including DADT, DREAM and the omnibus spending bill.
Why? In large part because Republicans have not stood firm (or together) in stopping these unpopular items until the next session...
