Pope Air Force Base was on lockdown Thursday night after a shooting in base housing, according to a base spokesman.
No one was injured in the shooting reported shortly after 9 p.m., but authorities were seeking to catch the unnamed gunman because of the potential danger, said Airman Kristopher Levasseur, a spokesman for the 43rd Airlift Wing.
No one was being allowed to leave or to come onto base, he said.

By about 10:45 p.m., officials reported the gunman remained on the loose.
I join you in prayer for our military and their families. I hope this is another “gun free zone” like FT Hood is, where our military and their families are sitting ducks for a crazed person with a gun..........
OOP! Make that “I hope this is NOT another gun free zone.........
Lemme guess, another straight, whitey, Christian, male tea-partier run amok, right? /s
All military bases are gun free zones.
Somebody is going to have to explain that to me.
“We can’t just let SOLDIERS have GUNS...!” “No, wait ...”
Yup, the military frowns on personnel firearms.
Fayetteville, NC
Next to Ft Bragg...
Yes ..
“He said he didn’t have further details about what happened. He said early Friday that personnel were still being told to stay inside.
The base, located near the Army’s Fort Bragg, is home to the 43rd Airlift Wing and 440th Airlift Wing.”

Pope Air Force Base lock down lifted
###
Pope Air Force Base re-opened early Friday following a shooting incident Thursday evening.
Military officials lifted the safety measure after authorities searched for a shooter on Pope Air Force Base near Fayetteville. No one was injured.
It is unclear what kind of shooting incident was involved, but an ID check is currently in place for anyone entering or exiting the base.
So what happened to and where’s the shooter ??!!??
Ah yes, No Hope Pope. Gald I was never stationed there, heard a ton of nasty ‘war stories’ about the place.
OTOH, I’m sure some folks loved thier tours, I just haven’t run into them as yet.
I have been on several AFBs the last year and every single one of them required me to show my ID in order to enter—and there were no special circumstances in any of these cases. Seems like formal ID check is SOP.
And, as we saw at Ft Hood--all military bases are not gun free................the bad guys will always have guns if they want them----
Not unreasonably. But perhaps MPs should be armed at all times, and officers should be required to carry their sidearms.
