SAN FRANCISCO -- The National Organization for Women filed complaints against local Hooters restaurants Thursday, but not for exploiting its scantily clad waitresses by subjecting them to leering and groping customers.
The subject this time was Hooters' catering to children.
The restaurants in San Francisco, San Bruno, Sacramento and Orange County are classified as "adult entertainment" establishments but also serve minors, NOW's California chapter said in papers filed with police and prosecutors.
What's more, the organization said, Hooters provides child menus, high chairs and booster seats, and sells T-shirts in children's sizes that identify the wearer as a "Future Hooters Girl."
Patricia Bellasalma, NOW's California president, asserted that Hooters is violating state and local laws prohibiting sexually oriented "adult" businesses from serving minors. The chain is also violating federal employment standards, she said.
Bellasalma said the federal government has not subjected Hooters to the rules requiring employers to protect their workers from harassment by customers. The Atlanta-based chain has successfully argued that its employees know they will be working in sexually charged surroundings, Bellasalma said.
But in recent years, she said, the company has promoted itself as more family-friendly. She cited a statement on hooters.com that "10 percent of the parties we serve have children in them."

A stopped clock being occasionally correct, I hope NOW is successful. Kids should not be sexualized. It is wrong.
I don’t approve of parents taking their kids to R movies, either, I don’t care, I am not a Libertarian and I don’t think it should be legal to sexualize or terrorize their kids.

Hooters,,,, Ok, been there twice. What a completely retarded place, only outdone by a flock of seriously strange customers. Literally feel my skin crawling sitting there eating very bad food, over priced, looking at a bunch of girls wearing ugly orange shorts? Beam me up...

I agree - that is no place for kids...but what is NOW really up to by doing this? They now care about the well being of children they didn’t think had the right to be born in the first place? Some other motive going on here than wanting to protect impressionable minds...
I was in there one night and some lucky kid was having his birthday party in there. btw, There are some freepers who want to shut hooters down.
Next thing you know, they won't allow children at the swimming pool or the beach because women wear bikini's or thongs.
Good point! In addition, NOW is silent about Gay Days at Disneyland and Disney World where children are exposed to images and behaviors far more sexualized than what they would see at the typical Hooters restaurant.
I brought back a t-shirt from one of my business trips for one of my girlfriends at Hooters and she makes me cheesecake once a month.
I’m sure Hooters works for some folks, but man, not my scene. Granted, I’m in a county where even the Hooters girls are fat and ugly...
I don’t get it. The now nags are big on womyn baring their boobs in public when they’re feeding their kids but not when someone else is feeding their kids?!
Notice they dont say squat about the grope and change of little girls by TSA apes....
