Haley Barbour spoke with the Clarion-Ledger editorial board where they talked about his interest in running for president, among other things. Barbour said that he will wait until after the 2011 legislative season ends, which is scheduled to happen April 3.
In todays world, that is just very late in the game. Barbour has been going around, visiting key states, giving speeches; usually in his previous capacity as chairman of the RGA. It isnt as if his name is already out there, but other potential candidates like Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, Tim Pawlenty, Sarah Palin or Newt Gingrich have certainly been on the public stage a great deal more than Barbour. Also, unlike Barbour, neither of the perceived frontrunners have true day jobs like being a governor. (Pawlenty is currently governor, but his term ends in January).
Fred Thompson entered the race late in the game last time around. There was buzz around his name when he entered, but his run never amounted to anything although that may have been because his heart never seemed like it was in it. Barbour wouldnt enter the race if his heart wasnt in it and if he didnt think he had a good chance of winning.

Who you promoting, pissant?
“Last I heard he was sounding like Sarah McGingrich on illegal aliens.”
I was gonna write something sarcastic, involving you, a full bladder and a rope, but I remembered the old warning against wrestling with a pig ... the pig gets all excited and has fun in the mud and you are left covered in filth and feeling lousy. I don’t want to be all covered with your stuff, thanks. Have a sweet night for yourself. OK? Stay as happy as you are.
Is Jr. taking as good a care of the defense contractors in San Diego as his old man did? Oh, I forgot, he has to get a chairmanship before he can bring the really big bucks “home”(so to speak).
Barbour is a smart guy, and a good governor, but he’s a professional insider. That isn’t what we need.
I suppose you realize it, but Barbour is an insider pro who is comfortable wheeling and dealing, Gingrich is a failed RINO who likes to divorce his wives and do whatever he has to do to stay in power, and Sarah Palin is Sarah Palin. No resemblance to those two other guys.
You won’t help your candidate by spending your life unfairly running people down. Unless he runs for governor first and gains some experience and name recognition, he’s not going anywhere.
The media and East/West coast "sophisticates" never understood the appeal of Fred's laid back southern manner. If they had even listened to any of his serious interviews, they (and citizens) would have seen a reasoned, knowledgeable person who wanted to lead this country but who wouldn't sell his mother or his children or throw granny under the bus in order to grab the presidency. He would have made a great American President.
The only problem I ever had with Fred was his endorsement of his "friend" John McCain. What is it with so many people who don't see beyond McCain's military svc?

Fred was certainly better than the run of the mill RINO frontrunners. But he too had some ugly skeletons in the closet.
Ok, we get it, he is not Duncan Hunter...
Gov. Barbour, please choose your compatriot across the river in Louisiana as your Veep.
Is it really too much to ask that the supposed conservative party run people that will get rid of the illegal Aliens, not grant them legal status? Hells bells. Even the RINOs Huck and Mitt came around (at least for campaign purposes) to deporting the illegals. Barbour didn’t get the memo.
