Well, if this was a customer, it’s beyond the pale to “write a letter” to a person of such a personal nature. If he had simply literally commented to him/her at the time of transaction, that would be different (in reality, but likely not to the PC police).

I can understand the DMV worker's sentiment but he was beyond foolish to do what he did. He had to know it would cost him his job. I see nothing gained here and likely an expensive lawsuit against the California DMV over this incident, which didn't have to happen. This is not the way to evangelize.
