For connecting more than half a billion people and mapping the social relations among them; for creating a new system of exchanging information; and for changing how we all live our lives, Mark Elliot Zuckerberg is TIME's 2010 Person of the Year.

Those are two very good reasons. I tend to think that MySpace also suffered because of its format. Having allowed users to heavily modify the look of their pages, a lot of pages simply ended up looking ugly. I seem to recall hearing someone once say that MySpace is to social networking what Geocities was to web design. By contrast, Facebook pages are simpler, and much easier on the eyes, and it simply looks like a more grown-up site.
Meanwhile, although you could heavily alter the graphical appearance of a MySpace page, there was only so much you could do to personalize the content. Photos are still hidden off the front page of a profile. So are blog posts. If you want noticeable updates and personal insight in your social networking, Facebook had MySpace beat by a mile.
I know. Sweet, isn't it? :)
:o)
I don't know, but every girlfriend that I ever had in college seems to live there. lol.
they’re planning on taking over the internet, must be Democrats
Wow, Rush just blasted FaceBook.
Got to remember that it is close to Oscars time, and look for the movie, “The Social Network” to get a nod.
Well, you find a LOT of conservatives online as well.
Opps, forgot to add, on Facebook and Twitter as well.
I suspect there is an Oscar nod in regards to that movie coming down the road, would not surprise me.
It’s rather ironic that you posted that observation on what is, more or less, a social networking site organized around politics. Don’t get mad, I’m just saying.
What did Sarah do this year? If anything John Boehner should have been man of the year
If Rush blasted Facebook, then he’s simply behind with the times.
I think he just simply blast the big deal made of it.
I skipped MySpace and went straight to Facebook, but my impression has been that MySpace alienates a lot of people with an excess of personal formatting on the user home page — from what I can tell MySpace seems to hold an audience of bands, musicians, artists etc. who want to have their own “billboard advertisement” online but that turns others off (or it does that for me when I’ve occasionally gone to MySpace and never stayed or even started an account there).
Facebook allows a fair amount of personalization but the usability and appearance of each page makes it a lot easier, more appealing to get around.... although I do think FB’s claimed numbers of users seems to be vastly inflated, or a lot of people create an account there and then spend little or no time on the site, ever.
I’ve enjoyed it as a means to re-connect with far-flung family and friends, but I’ve definitely noticed over time that few people seem to sustain much engagement there.....
I agree.
