Video: Two Elected Texas Democrats Switch to GOP
Pajamas Media ^ | DECEMBER 15, 2010 | Bryan Preston

The Democratic Party’s civil war continues to take its toll. Jim Geraghty noted that across the South, a handful of elected Democrat officials switched parties this week, and the week prior to that I noted that several others had switched, including two black Democrats in Georgia.

In Texas Tuesday, two Democratic state Representatives hung up the donkey and switched teams: State Rep. Allan Ritter of southeast Texas (District 21), and state Rep. Aaron Pena of Hidalgo County (District 40) , are now Republicans, giving the Texas GOP an almost unthinkable 101-49 supermajority in the state House.

While the GOP should welcome with open arms any new democrat converts, I also believe that the Reagan admonition should also apply in these cases: “Trust but verify”.

I have to wonder why they are doing it?

Then I am reminded of the RINOS.

I dunno why we’re celebrating over it. They’re just bunch of RINOS, who only change seats to protect their own job

Which is better than a lot of Republicans.

Two Elected Texas Democrats Switch to GOP ...

... which dropped each party's average IQ in the legislature by at least six points.

Interestingly enough, Gov Bev Perdue of NC has raised some eyebrows with some conservative moves. She was Lt Gov under Easley corrupted, so its the same here, be hopeful but not blind. For the first time in a while Republicans took the NC state House and Senate. Maybe this state can become less California and more Texas again.

Redistricting in Texas and Florida is going to change things in a big way with each state getting two new congressional districts. I don’t know if it will change at the state level but it is those state people who will be making the changes. I suspect these two are doing it just to win points in what is coming their way.

It would be great to take control and turn all the powers of government built up by the Progressive Communists against them.

It means one of two things: Either the clouds rolled back, trumpets sounded and they had a spiritual awakening to conservatism ... or the Republican Party has no core values and is only an amoral club for elected officials.

It’s not enough to say I’m a “D” or “R”. Look at what they supported in the past, and what they are going to support in the future.

Remember during the last election cycle adn the Democrats ran fake Tea Party canidates? This is much the same, except they are undercover in the Republican party.

Georgia’s current governor was a Democrat before he switched partys. Look at the sad state we are in now.

Are these party switches going to impact the redistricting process in some of these states?

In some parts of Texas this has been going on at the county/city level for sometime now.

Either the clouds rolled back, trumpets sounded and they had a spiritual awakening to conservatism ...

Our local Fox affiliate played a clip by one of these, and he said "I've always been a conservative democrat, and the current democrat party no longer represents my beliefs".

I hope it impacts the redistricting in Texas. If we can get rid of lord dog nuts, it will help Texas. Of course, queen Sheila J. Lee is in a super safe district.

Most of these switches have been in states in which the GOP already controlled the process; a cynic would say that is the main reason why they switched in the first place.

It’s possible. That also depends on who the next Texas Speaker of the House is.
