Israel's F-15Is get small diameter bombs

The Israeli air force has armed its Boeing F-15Is with the US manufacturer's small diameter bomb (SDB).
The precision-guided weapon comes in two variants: the 113kg (250lb) GBU-39, which uses inertial navigation and GPS guidance to strike fixed and stationary targets, and the GBU-40. The latter is equipped with a terminal seeker with automatic target recognition capabilities for use against moving targets.
The F-15I is the first Israeli type to field the SDB, with the air force expecting the combination to achieve initial operational capability by mid-2011. The service is currently evaluating whether to also equip its Lockheed Martin F-16s with the weapons.

The SDB's dimensions and accuracy mean combat aircraft can carry more bombs and strike more targets on and individual sortie. Lessons from the war in Lebanon and fighting in the Gaza Strip have prompted the Israeli air force to seek smaller bombs to reduce collateral damage.

You can hit a house willing out killing the purported non-combatants next door.
Ya gotta love a neighborly bomb.
But even a 100 lb anvil dropped from a 500 mph plane at 5000 feet altitude - IF it can hit the right place! - can destroy most targets.
Using a smaller more intelligent bomb and being able to carry more of them longer ranges (less weight and less drag) is a major gain.

Toward the end of “Operation Iraqi Freedom”, USAF was dropping GPS guided concrete-filled “bombs”. It performed the same function: smash the target building without terribly inconveniencing the neighbours.

According to some non-confidential sources in Israel, there are some telephone-pole sized tungston babies that have Iran’s name on them that can be launched from VERY high altitude drones.
Not “rods from G-d,” but very close.

But they had to. The Air Force kept getting all those noise complaints from the neighbors after dark otherwise.
