German man castrates teenage daughter's 57-year-old boyfriend
The Telegraph ^ | 12/13/2010 | Allan Hall

An enraged father who disapproved of his daughter's older boyfriend went to his home and castrated him with a bread knife.

Helmut Seifert, 47, an ethnic German originally from Russia, was enraged when he heard his 17-year-old daughter was having a relationship with Phillip Genscher, 57.

He went to police in the town of Bielefeld where he lives but officers said they were powerless to intervene.

"The man then recruited two work colleagues at his factory and then went to the house of the victim," said police.

"The man was forced to remove his trousers and, fully conscious, he was castrated. The severed testicles were taken away by the perpetrator."

You know it. I can’t believe we have FReepers who think this is justice, when the victim was well within the law.

Millions of young German men are putting this girl on their do not call list and erasing her Facebook page....

Why? Daddy and buds are getting a whole new perspective on sex in prison. New suitors are safe.

A lot of things which are immoral are legal. Just because its legal does not make it right or moral.

The father seemed like he was very much in control. He tried to let the law take care of it but they refused.

Here's the problem with that. There has to come a point where it's out of daddy's hands. I think everyone can agree on that. Every father might not agree on the legal cutoff, but tough, every society needs a uniform standard.

The irony here, despite Germany's alien (to us) law that puts the age of consent at 14, this girl would have been legal in the majority of American states. When it's her choice, it's her choice. If Dad doesn't like it, he can ask her to leave his house, but he can't go around castrating people.

Way back when I was a recently divorced 30 year old, dating a 20 year old felt a bit creepy.

How can a 57 year old "date" a girl who was born when he was 40?

To be used as Tannenbaum ornaments, no doubt! Or possibly a pendant for his wayward daughter??

I wonder how this will effect her social life?

“You know, I always have decided the appropriate time to put a fresh edge on my old Ka-Bar is when my 17 year old daughter has a young suitor come to pay her a visit. “

I told mine that she is to warn me before she brings a boy home to meet us. When she asked why I told her “because I will be sitting on the couch in my underwear cleaning my shotgun”.

(She’s a good kid and she knows I’m full of crap)

Nope, and I don't take anything here personally (except for the few people who won't let things go, or get really personal, or if they call me a liberal, that's a fighting word!) LOL Nope, it's all good, we be friends! You love critters, I love critters. :)

From your data, the relationship was legal.

Distressing to say, that's evidently true. Are they too advanced, or still in the dark ages? Mainly though, were Romeo's (or Abellard's) attentions moral?

...choices that were less than the best is hardly justification to castrate a man doing what is legal.

First: I'm assuming things that may not be true:
a. the father had proof.
b. the father warned the 'suitor' to cease.
c. the father sought remediation and justice through legal channels, but was rebuffed.
Actually, I don't think C is an assumption. As to A and B,due to the brevity of the article, these remain an open question.

But assuming A,B, and C true:
1. The father never expected legal exoneration. He was compelled by an outraged moral conscience.
2. It's not likely he'll receive in those courts the consideration some of us feel the horney codger deserved.
3. Despite this, he did what he felt was just and right, with the aid of two others equally outraged.

"You can't take the law into your own hands!" we hear.
But what if the law is negligent? What other choice is there? Prior law, custom and morality have recognized the inherently exploitive nature of adults who prey on the naive and either prosecuted the guilty, or turned a blind eye when the agrieved do their work from them. Outcomes like this are the result of willful ignorance.

Here's the choice: champion the father of the minor, or her exploiter.

I go with the father.

Any female FReepers have any ideas?

*************

She’s ugly as a mud fence and looks like Precious so that old man was all she could get?

Reminds me a joke that my former rabbi used to give about having a large dull flint knife out. The boy would inevitably ask about it only to be told that any boy touching his daughter between her shoulders and knees would be recircumcised with it.

No 17 yo dates a 57 year old man without daddy issues. Now she really has daddy issues.

“But what if the law is negligent?”

Here you capture a central issue of this thread.

Was the law actually negligent?

Given that marriage age was usually 16 (often younger) until the rise of the FemiNazi - oops, make that feminist movement, law, history, and Judeo-Christian history/theology support the girl’s being old enough to know what she was doing.

Daddy’s act is a clear case of what the poultry industry calls a “cluck-up”.

I vote for the German court’s most severe penalty. Why? ‘Cause Daddy had to take two other “friends” to do the deed, AND Daddy was something like a dozen years younger than the man he castrated.

A good case can be made that the father is a coward.

Specially doggies that can laugh and smile...that is one cutie pie.

But I do hate coons, nasty killers on the farm hate them...they killed more of my birds than I did, also decapitated my pet banty rooster that was trained to fly up on my wrist if I called him and lots of baby turkeys etc...they spit hiss and growl when caught in a live trap..not smart when your standing there holding a gun..I don't hunt but all my boys and some of my grandsons do. They love venison and squirrel.>P? Here in Michigan deer cause lot of car accidents and some deaths...I see them in my meadow several times a week but wont let my kids hunt on my property. Didn't let them hunt on the farm either. I think that is why car insurance is so high in the state.....too many deer and they are corn fed with all the corn raised in the state... GG

This guy should be thrown in jail for 20 years. Why?
- He has traumatized his daughter, and reduced the likelihood she will find a willing husband.
- A nickel says he has a history of abuse. Why else would he react in the way he did.
- The police could not intervene because under the local law, it was either not a crime or not a prosecuted crime.

There must be a severe penalty for malice aforethought, for mayhem, for assault to commit grave bodily harm, for depriving a person of the possibility of parenthood. In short, as a father myself, with daughters before and older than the one discussed, I would throw the book at this guy, and hope he rots.

It all sounds good but dear old dad is going to jail and daughter is just going to find another looser go have sex with.
So what was really accomplished??? Not a damn thing good.
