The DREAM Act got a last-minute reprieve on the Senate floor last night as Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid pulled the bill and gave its advocates more time to whip up the votes it still needs to break a Republican filibuster.
The moment involved a bit of the Senates signature procedural drama. A motion to end debatewhich requires 60 votes that havent yet materializedwas scheduled to take place just hours after the House made history Wednesday night, passing the decade-old DREAM Act for the first time in either chamber. But 15 minutes after the 11 a.m. cloture vote was supposed to begin, Reid instead called for a vote to again table the bill.
That motion was approved, 59 to 40, staving off what would have been an all but sure loss for the DREAM Act in the Senate. The move allows the Senate to vote on the House version, thereby streamlining the process if the Senate is successful. It also removes the hurdle of Republicans refusal to deal with any other legislation until their tax-cut deal with Obama passes. Advocates called it a gift.
This next five, six days is like a gift for Christmas, said Carlos Saavedra of United We DREAM. We are going to put so much pressure on every single senator that is standing between ourselves and our dreams. Every single one is going to feel an immense amount of pressure.

One vote away from losing the republic.
He sure pushes losers doesn’t he. I think there should be a year before a bill or change to policy can come up again. Obviously except for the budget, but EVERYTHING else can only be voted on ONE TIME and then not come up again for 12 months. What a great America we would have if that was the case. Oh and no Executive Orders on bills and policies that were not approved.
Apparently, Reid was unconscious on November 2nd.
Democrats are now holding the country hostage. A budget wont get passed until the Dream act, and I bet DADT gets passed.
The RINOS are going to cave on this.
Harry has a wet dream.
The Dream Act will pass but I don’t know about DADT. It is amazing that the government is running on 80 percent of the 2010 budget and still surviving. Makes you wonder huh? Although it is hurting us in the military (you will never hear that in the media). But the rest of the government is doing pretty well at 80 percent. They should just see if things are fine for the rest of the year (October 2011) to see if the additional funds are really needed.
I don’t think it will.
I can’t write what I’m thinking. I will be banned and the FBI will be pounding at my door.
For your lips to God’s ears.
Obviously these people are racists in favor of the people who can crawl across the border, over the good poor from Africa and Asia. What else would the reason be that Mexican kids get privileges a poor African teen does not, all because he HAPPENS to have been born too far to take the desert across into El Norte? Racists, all.
Let the bidding begin. Who will be the winner of the Dream Act Sweepstakes?
Yep. The RINOS will screw us a gain.
That Carlos Saavedra of United We DREAM in the article pissed me off more then Reid.
They are trying to undermine the democratic process.
I have my own DREAM act. I dream of a United States filled with only citizens and legal immigrants. I dream of not having to educate criminals’ children. I dream of not having to make criminals’ US-born children citizens and put them at the front of the line for largesse. I dream of a United States that isn’t constantly barraged and reinfected with heretofore extinct diseases (TB, and other exotic infestive disease). I dream of a US penal system overloaded and infested with illegal criminals. I dream of not having to pay additional taxes so that illegals can use local emergency rooms like general practicioner offices. I dream of a private help-the-needy system not inundated with illegals looking for more handouts. I dream of an electoral system not infested with illegal voters. I dream of US highways devoid of uninsured and unlicensed illegal drivers. I dream of a US highway system devoid of criminally drunk illegals. I dream.....
Your dream is our nightmare, where do these a##hat criminal bastards get off handing over American taxpayer monies to illegal aliens while thier struggling to put thier own children in college and getting hosed doing it. Our anger over these criminals is reaching the point of no return
What is it going to take for the so called government to understand WE do not want these people here?
They want to legalize the illegal children, then the next step is to amnesty the parents of the illegal children (”we can’t split up families”). And finally these families will sponsor relatives for immigration.
