ALBANY Assemblyman Robert Castelli (R-Goldens Bridge) has won reelection after close race against Democrat Thomas Roach. The win in the 89th District in Westchester County gives the Republicans at least 50 members in January, said Caucus Leader Brian Kolb.
Castelli won by 112 votes once a judge ruled in his favor and certified the tally.
Castelli is hopeful that Governor-elect Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, will lead a state turnaround.
I know that many of the things that he has said during the course of his campaign were certainly policies that I would have pursued and I know the Republican minority has pursued in the Assembly, he said. If he can follow through with that, then we can rein in some of the ridiculous spending and start to put our state back in proper fiscal order.
The GOP could pick up another seat if former assemblyman Thomas Kirwan keeps a very narrow lead over Democrat incumbent Frank Skartados. A recount in that race is nearing an end.
Good news for Westchesterians.
Amazing given that the top of the ticket sucked.
How much better could we have done if the top of the ticket was merely weak?
Sad, wasn’t it? Lazio would not have imploded and would have helped on Long Island. Bishop would have been thrown out.
