If there's one thing you can say about Bill Clinton, it's that he's a master at the game of politics. He's a complete natural, and as shrewd as they come. Hillary might have had a shot at winning the Democrat nomination, if she'd just let Bill run the show, but I digress.
New details leaking out suggest that this was an impromptu press conference that was Bill Clinton's idea. Another poster put forth the theory that Bill got Barry to call it, with the total intention of showing him up as the weak amateur he is, in front of the national press and the American public.
Having long ago sized up Obama as a pompous narcissist, with little in the way of real political skills, Clinton knew that he could force Obama into an embarrassing situation by effectively commandeering the press conference. Once he got on the mic, he did exactly that.
What was Obama going to do? Stand to one side in his press briefing room while getting punked by the master? Uh, no. Just as Clinton knew he would, he ducked out, which made him look like the fool he is.
Anyway, that's one theory of what happened. Actually, I don't think Clinton initially set out to punk a sitting president like that, but once he was in that situation, he simply did what he does, which is take control of the room.
People who've watched the video say that Clinton looks genuinely surprised when Obama says that he has to go. I think Clinton just took it from there and let Obie punk himself.
Just remembering, OBummer missed the debt reduction committee meeting at the White house, which was kind of strange in itself, and now this bit of high strangeness with the press conference. Wonder I he has really gone over the edge this time......just saying.
Agreed , but please see my post #55 . obama clearly did not want to be there , IMHO .
right from the start 0 set the agenda:
a)Bill was going to make a few brief remarks (ok so Bill never did anything brief —see state of union speeches)
b) and possibly take a few questions (ok , once Bill has teh podium, he isnt likely to give it up)
c) while he takes off for an event
Once Bill gets on a roll and 0 is put in the position of having to characterize Bills advice, 0 bails by giving the previously mentioned excuse.
> “If there’s one thing you can say about Bill Clinton, it’s that he’s a master at the game of politics. He’s a complete natural, and as shrewd as they come.”
.
You mean “a complete SOCIOPATH?”
.
The only individual who might be as natural a politician as President Bill Clinton is Governor Sarah Palin. What other “failed” vice presidential candidate ever came back and made themselves into the powerhouse that she’s become? Who else had to put up with 24/7 vilification from the press, academia, Hollywood, Broadway, TV and all the rest? And with only a handful of advisors and aides, to boot.
“People who’ve watched the video say that Clinton looks genuinely surprised when Obama says that he has to go. “
When obama first mentions the party at the start, it is clear from clinton’s face that he didn’t expect to hear that at all. Presumably obama was using that initially as a tactic to shut the thing down quickly, but when clinton got the podium, he lost control of it and eventually just wanted out.
