If this very same meat was labeled smoked turkey and sold to Mohammedans, you would know the proprietor was of the tribe.

Early in my career, I worked for a Jewish fellow in the furniture business. I became a buyer for his stores and attended the Markets in High Point (area) and Atlanta.

He kept kosher at home. His wife saw to that. But, on my first trip to HP, we stopped and enjoyed breakfast, NC style. He loved scrapple, and country ham, red eye gravy*, eggs and grits! We also enjoyed some mighty fine oysters and shrimp...

* for you Nawtheners, red eye gravy is made up of pan drippings from the salt-cured country ham, and coffee... with or without a flour thickener.
