Melvin Clay, 37, and Helaina Amrine, 21, were arrested Thursday night in connection to the stabbing death of 23-year-old Marine Ryan Lekosky in October.
New Orleans Police Department spokeswoman officer Shereese Harper reported that the two were arrested by police shortly after 9 p.m. at the intersection of Dauphine Street and Bienville street, just one block from where the fatal stabbing occurred.
According to Harper, Clay was charged with second degree murder, while Amrine, his girlfriend, was charged with accessory after the fact.
After leaving the Marine Ball with his wife around 3:30 a.m. on October 31, Lekosky was stabbed several times when he got into a verbal altercation with Clay, who police say was harassing pedestrians, including Lekosky's wife. Lekosky later died at the hospital.

Good news if you can call it that.
More "Rogue Amish"....
Sorry to hear some schmuck killed a Marine with a knife. It apears it can happen. I thought Marines always carried their own knife?
While I am happy they got him, why just 2nd degree murder?
Probably because it was not premeditated??
Mike
You may have missed it when it happened but the Marine and his wife had just left the Marine Corps Ball hence the Marine was dressed in his dress blues his wife in a gown.Besides, the military frowns on the carrying of personal weapons.
Interesting indeed. The comments have turned to an argument about race.
I hope they are meted justice appropriately.
Seems like everything & everyone is being boiled down to good and evil these days, there are no grey areas anymore.
October is the anniversayr of the Marine Corps. They were attending a ball. I am pretty sure that he was in his dress blues. NOt sure there is a knife sheath in that uniform.
Deadly force in the commission of a crime and its not murder? I guess maybe its a LA thing. States give different meaning to those terms.
Yes it's still murder but states have varying degrees of murder. Premeditated usually brings the death penalty. The courts look upon as premeditated murder as being worse than murder committed in an act of passion so to speak.
got some.
got some
In Louisiana a first degree murder requires additional elements. Robbery, exceptional cruelty (torture or ritual), aged or child victim, threat to multiple victims (shooting into a crowd for example) etc.
2nd Degree is the proper charge in Louisiana. It is the charge for a deliberate, unlawful killing of a human being with specific intent to kill. As a side note, it is easier to convict that 1st degree, and Orleans Parish juries never issue a death sentence unless the victim is a child. Mandatory life without benefits of pardon or parole is the sentence - same as 1st degree if the death penalty is not imposed.
Premeditation is not a Louisiana element - specific intent to kill is.
“got some”
I told you they would get this guy.
Second prediction: The guy will ultimately be convicted, the girlfriend will walk.
I knew all along they would get him. Some here seemed to think not. NOPD is very indefatigable when it comes to crimes in the Quarter. They will crack heads if necessary.
Some here pointed out that NOPD generally does not solve murders.
