From Audacity to Animosity
The Wall Street Journal ^ | December 10, 2010 | Peggy Noonan

Posted on 12/10/2010 4:58:40 AM PST by Tom D.

We have not in our lifetimes seen a president in this position. He spent his first year losing the center, which elected him, and his second losing his base, which is supposed to provide his troops. There isn't much left to lose! Which may explain Tuesday's press conference.

President Obama was supposed to be announcing an important compromise, as he put it, on tax policy. Normally a president, having agreed with the opposition on something big, would go through certain expected motions. He would laud the specific virtues of the plan, show graciousness toward the negotiators on the other side—graciousness implies that you won—and refer respectfully to potential critics as people who'll surely come around once they are fully exposed to the deep merits of the plan.

Instead Mr. Obama said, essentially, that he hates the deal he just agreed to, hates the people he made the deal with, and hates even more the people who'll criticize it. His statement was startling in the breadth of its animosity. Republicans are "hostage takers" who worship a "holy grail" of "tax cuts for the wealthy." "That seems to be their central economic doctrine."

While we all have our issues with Ms. Noonan, no one can argue with the first paragraph of this article.

All these losses are a set up to the big one coming in 2012. Which may explain...

I hold to my position that Obama will not finish his term. He may resign for health reasons, he may commit suicide, he may just die, the Democrats might convince him to resign, or his eligibility may become a hot issue and he may be forced out. Some of these are less likely than others, but one way or another, both parties are going to conclude that they don’t want him in the White House. And neither he nor Michelle really want him there either.

Hillary is as much of a leftist as Obama is. I would hope the memory of “Bubba” Clinton as President would jog some bad memories of those two and their over the top abuses of that office enough to prevent such an absurd outcome from happening. Those two are a package, an out of date, rancid package. Shrillary? No, thanks.

Don’t you know: “Graciousness” was omitted from the “Austrian” language?

Obama will never lose blacks. They see only his color.

As for the rest, I’m guessing that the elusive birth certificate might just turn up one of these days.

Can you spell I-M-P-E-A-C-H?

Imagine what would happen if Assange released a document in which Obama discussed the importance of sending money to Kenya to suppress information about his birth there.

Assange could fake that document. The information would be 100% bogus -- but if the document were released through Wikileaks, people would buy it and the Obama's administration would fall virtually overnight. An easy way to take him out.

I hold to my position that Obama will not finish his term.

This happens for political or non-political reasons

For political reasons/dynamics to cause this requires too much time. Essentially, you're talking about a removal of a sitting President, and this simply is not going to happen with Obama.

Non-political reasons are the only credible way he does not finish his term. If the gossip about his "losing it" mentally are correct, one might speculate on the possibilities of his resigning, giving whatever politically expedient reasons are needed. Even then it's Really Really Far-fetched to imagine that the political powers-that-be (Dem politicos at the top) would opt for this.

More and more folks compare Obama to Carter. Carter finished his term. Obama will finish his.

If things get bad enough -- politically -- for the Democratic Party to clamor for a different Democrat President, it'll be through replacing Obama at the top of the ticket in 2012. Now THAT is something to watch for.

And, yes, watch for the Clintons to maneuver Hillary into this position. Her insistence that she's not interested is ... well ... just as incredible as the idea that Obama does not complete his first term.

Clearcase_guy,

I posted my comment above before seeing your speculation on a Wikileaks cable implicating Obama in suppressing Kenyan revelations about his birth.

You've been reading too many Clancy novels! On the other hand, Assange and his confreres are just the sorts to do this kind of thing!

So, we'll sit back and wait to see just how far the Wikileaks mischief runs.

I have to agree, something about the guy tells me he has no staying power and I’ve always thought he wouldn’t finish his term. But I’ve been wrong before...

Assange wouldn't have to do it. One of his acolytes could accomplish the job as soon as next week.

I wish that I could agree with you.

As for the birth certificate issue, I personally hope that this is a 'red herring.' Think about it for a minute. If indeed Obama is shown to be ineligible to be President, then it would be the constitutional duty of the House of Rep. to impeach him immediately. But after what I saw a dozen years ago with Bubba Clinton, I doubt that a Senate conviction would result. I truly believe that the Democratic Party doesn't give a hang about the Constitution. And hence we will have another, potentially ultimately fatal, Constitutional crisis.

Ms. Noonan makes a great point. The Democrats are stuck. At the present time, it is hard to see anyone dislodging Obama from his perch.

I tend to agree with you that he might not finish his term.

He keeps getting curiouser and curiouser and every week there is a new development that leads me to believe he will snap. His performance at his presser was "queer" to say the least (he insulted absolutely everyone) and the fact that he was a "no show" at the debt commission meeting at the WH yesterday was odd.

We all need to keep in mind that Obama is not just a pathological narcissist, he towers above all other pathological narcissists. His Harvard Law classmates whispered that he was the most arrogant person they had ever encountered (he was so arrogant he deigned to lecture the professors). Think about that...he was the most narcissistic person ever encountered by fellow narcissists at the most narcissistic school in the world.

Well, sooner or later all narcissists get their comeuppance. It can occur when they collide with reality or it can occur when their narcissistic supply of adoring fans evaporates. Obama is facing both at the same time.

His undisguised anger at the presser this week is a dead giveaway of what is going on in that head of his. Anger is the first symptom of narcissistic collapse. In his mind, he is God and his minions have had the audacity to disobey him.

The question is, what will he do when he crashes? Will he try to bring down the house with him or will he run?

“The question is, what will he do when he crashes?”

The bunker is being prepared. Fifty gallon drums of amphetamines are rolling into the war room. Imaginary divisions of fat SEIU divisions are set around the map. The fridge is stocked with wagu beef, slurpies and Kools. Axlerod has reserved a spot in the whoopee cushion room.

Let’s hope the dog makes it out alive this time.

Barky is facing two full years of meaninglessness. Jimmah Cahtah nearly went crazy while locked up in the White House at the end of his term.

I am with you, thinking he will not complete the term. I heard Bill Clinton is meeting with him privately today, probably to coach him a little on his loser public relations. I just hope that he has a public meltdown of some type so there is no one left wondering what happened to him.

I recall Jimmah found himself locked inside.
Barky, on the other hand, will just go on vacation...
