Looking for Mr. or Mrs. Right

Surveying the crop of would-be Republican presidential contenders in 2012, some Christian leaders can’t muster much enthusiasm.

“The supposed frontrunners have all got problems,” says Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission and a prominent leader of the religious right. Mitt Romney? “He put ‘Obamacare Light’ in place in Massachusetts,” says Land. “It’s going to be awfully difficult for him to surmount that.” Sarah Palin? “Her problem is her very high negatives. Evangelicals want somebody they like, but they also want somebody who can beat Barack Obama.” Mike Huckabee? “The problem Mike’s got is that he and Sarah Palin are appealing to the same base, and Sarah has stronger appeal to that base.” And Newt Gingrich? “Two ex-wives is one ex-wife too many for most evangelicals.”

DeMint, Pence, Rounds, Bachmann, Bolton should be a good start

Well, okay, until one of them says something I don't like... ;) See, this is the value of not making too many public appearances too early. Fewer chances to say something regrettable.

Unfortunately, what will no doubt happen is that there will be a bazillion candidates splitting the "conservative" vote (whatever that is) and a candidate who is little more than a Democrat will prevail. This is what happened in Michigan's gubernatorial race, and I think it's becoming the new Republican "strategy" for "winning."

OTOH, I could be absolutely wrong. However, I so rarely am.

Bolton has a lot going for him, but is he ready for prime time? Sarah Palin is a terrific lady, but it might be better for her to play kingmaker than actually be a candidate. Mitt Romney just has too many credibility problems. Mike Huckabee is a social conservative, but not an economic conservative. Thankfully, we have plenty of time to work this out.

Consider the source: Newsweek

That is the same pack of vermin that stated on their cover: “We are all Socialists now.”

Of course we are not, but they don’t know that. (Really they just lie and say they don’t know that)

If Pence runs, I’m supporting him.

Personally, I’d love me some Rob Portman, who very quitely destroyed his Senate opponent by 20 points, in Ohio.

Haven’t heard a blessed thing about him, he just goes about and does his job.

Hell, I'm supporting Bozo the Clown if he runs against Obama.

At this point, we need to make sure a true conservative gets nominated, so we won't have to hold our noses while we vote.

I am all in favor of Thune or Paul Ryan. Thune has appeared on Greta and other Fox News Network programs and has been very articulate on the conservative message.

I'm an evangelical Southern Baptist Christian, and I would vote for Gingrich over any Democrat I can think of no matter his or her claims regarding moral/ethical issues. I don't know anything about Newt's religious convictions, but based on what I have heard him say I believe he would take a strong pro-morality stance on moral and ethical issues.

It's one thing for a candidate to say he or she is a Christian, it's another thing for him/her to vote on bills or judicial appointments according to Christian principles. Any politician who puts political dogma ahead of Christian morality isn't fit to govern, and that description fits every Democrat politician I know anything about.

IMHO no bible-believing Christian can support a pro-abortion, pro-homosexual agenda, pro-evolution public schools, candidate to be the leader of this nation that was founded on biblical Christian principles by a Congress composed primarily of Christian men. I realize that many of you will disagree, and that's your right in the USA, for now at least.

Looking for Mr. Right

PS: Somehow, given the current crop of likely Republican contenders, I'm afraid that the best that will happen is finding a Mr Goodbar. (A reference to a movie from the 70's where a teacher spends her nights cruising bars, looking for, and finding, abusive men)

For every good idea Newt has had, he has had an equal and opposite crappy one.

Do you support Gay Marriage?

John Bolton does

Do you support "Don't Ask Don't Tell"?

Bolton doesn't:

Asked about the president’s plan to repeal ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,’ Bolton said he is generally in favor of allowing anyone who wants to serve their country in the military to do so. “I don’t have any trouble with that [repealing ‘Don’t Ask, ‘Don’t Tell] assuming it is done in a way that is respectful of the people in the military who have great difficulty with it,” he said. “I don’t think there is any good answer to the question why shouldn’t gays and lesbians who want to serve their country be allowed to do it.”

While he told TheDC social issues “aren’t where I spend a lot of my time,” Bolton said he opposes abortion and has no problem with gay marriage – indeed, he said that gay marriage is “going to happen.” But, he added, “they are fundamentally issues to be resolved politically, primarily at the state level. And I think the notion of creating a constitutional right to abortion or a constitutional right to gay marriage is a mistake.”

Watch, he’ll change his tune on DADT. And his federalist approach to gay marriage is satisfactory to most conservatives.
