A former UA law school student and beauty queen was sentenced to two years in prison plus six years probation Thursday for her part in the kidnapping and torture of her former boyfriend.
Kumari Fulbright is leaning over and talking to her attorney Steve Sherick during her sentencing in Superior Court Thursday morning.
Kumari Fulbright, 28, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit kidnapping and aggravated assault as part of a plea agreement that stipulated the prison sentence.
It was left up to Pima County Superior Court Judge Michael Miller to decide how long she should be on probation following her release.
Defense attorney Steve Sherick asked for 18 months of probation. Prosecutor Michael Jette didnt specify how long he thought she should be placed on probation, but told Miller she didnt live up to the terms of her plea agreement and almost had it revoked.
According to prosecutors, Fulbright was dating Joshua Conway in the fall of 2007 when she asked him to sell jewelry she was given by her former boyfriend, Robert Ergonis.
When Ergonis came back into Fulbrights life, Jette and co-counsel Kim Ortiz said Fulbright lied and told Ergonis Conway had stolen and sold the jewelry.
Fulbright lured Conway to her apartment on Dec. 8, 2007, and Ergonis and David Radde jumped him, the prosecutors said. Another man, Larry Hammond, helped to detain him.
Conway was beaten, cut with a knife and held at gunpoint for hours until he was able to escape.
Fulbright, Radde and Hammond entered deals with the state and agreed to testify against Ergonis at his trial last month.
Ergonis was convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping, armed robbery and aggravated robbery. Jurors acquitted him on a second count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, choosing instead to convict him of a less serious assault charge. Hes scheduled to be sentenced next week.
Fulbright told jurors the plan was only for Ergonis to talk Conway into telling them where the jewelry was.
On Thursday, Jette told Miller Fulbright has done anything and everything to protect Ergonis, thus violating her promise to tell the truth on the stand. She also told Radde what he should testify, Jette said.
Conways desire to move on with his life is the only reason Fulbright was extended a plea agreement in the first place and its the only reason it hasnt been revoked, Jette said.
Fulbright still hasnt accepted responsibility for her actions or shown remorse, Jette said.
Sherick told Miller his clients testimony was truthful and consistent with police statements and defense interviews shes given. The defense attorney cited Fulbrights remorse and behavior while on pretrial release and while in jail as reasons for a short term of probation.
Miller ordered Fulbright to pay $15,000 restitution. He also agreed to allow Fulbright to move to Florida when she is released from prison.

>> A former UA law school student and beauty queen
Wow, they’ve sure defined “beauty queen” down since I was a pup.
Not “lawyer” though — those are still every bit as ugly as they used to be.
Now she's the Lizard Queen
Or a mental illness.
Good body with the gun shot but that face is donotwant.jpeg
More like Borg Queen.
Kinda makes you want to see the ones that were uglier than her...if you were into poking your eyes out and all.
I just want to know what happened to her head in this photo. Sort of looks like tire tracks which could ‘splain some things.
She used to be beautiful:
With a change like that Id say she got heavy into drugs.
Yep. To go from the picture on the right to looking like she does in the left photo, I figure it had to be either crack or meth. Looking at he booking photo on the left I notice what looks to me like evidence of scabs on her forehead, so I am going to go with Meth.
With no remorse and with the new "tough girl" hair style she's sporting in the picture of her in the orange prison jumpsuit up at the top, I would predict that she will be in trouble again.
And probably either dead or in prison for a long time sooner rather than later.
What a dumb girl to throw it all away like that, and not even feel sorry for it...
I’ll buy law student. Someone’s going to have to convince me about the beauty queen part.
Oh, I see they must have mistyped the name of the county.

Those hairdos are very complex and very expensive. They do, however, last at least a month. How does a prisoner afford the time (all day) to get it done, much less pay the beautician?
Her look in this pic seems to say she knows she got off relatively scot-free. She is a user, a liar, and will be back in the slammer within a year of being freed. She will have learned nothing.
“How does a prisoner afford the time (all day) to get it done, much less pay the beautician?”
Without reading any of the links, if she’s been in jail awaiting trial maybe one of her sister prisoners did it for her. I mean they do have time on their hands.
Could be .. or maybe she was out on bond during the trial? Really had forgotten about this case. She got off way too easy. She can wear her hair any way she wants. She’s still a loser.
