German Media: Iran Is Stockpiling Shahab 3 Missiles in Venezuela That Can Reach US

While Obama has been focusing his attention on the Republican hostage takers and bomb throwers the Iranian regime has been stockpiling Shahab 3 missiles in Venezuela that can reach the United States. Hudson New York reported, via Israel Matsav:

According to Die Welt, Venezuela has agreed to allow Iran to establish a military base manned by Iranian missile officers, soldiers of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and Venezuelan missile officers. In addition, Iran has given permission for the missiles to be used in case of an “emergency”. In return, the agreement states that Venezuela can use these facilities for “national needs” – radically increasing the threat to neighbors like Colombia. The German daily claims that according to the agreement, Iranian Shahab 3 (range 1300-1500 km), Scud-B (285-330 km) and Scud-C (300, 500 and 700 km) will be deployed in the proposed base. It says that Iran also pledged to help Venezuela in rocket technology expertise, including intensive training of officers

Venezuela has also become the country through which Iran intends to bypass UN sanctions. Following a new round of UN sanctions against the Islamic Republic, for example, Russia decided not to sell five battalions of S-300PMU-1 air defence systems to Iran. These weapons, along with a number of other weapons, were part of a deal, signed in 2007, worth $800 million. Now that these weapons cannot be delivered to Iran, Russia is looking for new customers; according to the Russian press agency Novosti[2], it found one: Venezuela.

“They would never violate Cuban air space!”

Castro would probably let them land to refuel. /humor

Personally, I don’t think she’s intelligent enough to see it quite that way. She’s simply being manipulated by what they say.

I don't believe this. If a missile were ever launched at the US mainland from Venezuela, any US president, even Obama would have no choice but to use the full military might of the United States. Some people of course would say that Obama would never do that. If we were attacked from Venezuela and he didn't respond by destroying the country and probably occupying it, it wouldn't surprise me if there would be a military coup.

Technology always advances.

Just because today they won’t reach, remember Iran, and presumably Venezuela are in league with North Korea.

North Korea most certainly has missiles which will go that far.

Once the base is operational, it’s only a matter of switching up to a longer range model.

Or one, with a different warhead...

Not to turn this into a Bush-bashing, but I still can’t understand why Bush didn’t seem to think Chavez was a problem.

It’s been clear all along, he is, and will be. Yet so many in positions which should have been doing things about that.

Seemed deliberately oblivious to the threat.

Just like they do about an ever-richer, ever more capable Red China.

Just as they do about sending all our jobs and factories elsewhere.

There seems a complete disconnect between our leaders, and our nation’s interests.

“it wouldn’t surprise me if there would be a military coup.”
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

I don’t know if that is the right word, maybe it would more properly be termed a removal of an illegitimate government, the coup was a bloodless one, beginning with the 2006 election and culminating in 2008. I hope 2010 was the first step in restoration of constitutional government but then I spent all of October looking for the Great Pumpkin.

Next step: Chavez will resell the missiles to the powerful and very wealthy Mexican drug gangs and station them inside Mexico — aimed at the US.

Caracas to Miami 2272 km - they could just barely make it. More likely to hit Key West.

Well, I live in Miami, so that's not a good thing. But Key West is like San Francisco in politics and demographics so that wouldn't be too great a loss except for all the naval assets in the region. Not that I want to get too specific on that -- loose lips sinking ships and all that....

Perhaps the longer time frame strategy is once the current missiles have been positioned and the base made operational, then begin sending in longer range missiles to replace those in Venezuela - while moving the shorter range - to Cuba, to then be protected by the longer range base in Venezuela.

I can’t believe our government has been so nonchalant about this. It’s been clear since Chavez took control there, this is what would happen.

Just as it’s clear now, which direction this is heading.

We seem to be sleepwalking as a nation, in so many ways.

Globalism. “Free trade”. Inaction.

It’s like our leadership (Rino right and Socialist left alike) actually want this to happen.

Iran is not Russia of 1962. I cannot imagine this taking too long, once we decide to do something about it.

But that's the rub. No one EVER does anything about Iran.

" I don’t think she’s intelligent enough to see it quite that way. She’s simply being manipulated by what they say."

Just because she's dumb doesn't mean she's not a True Believer. Her history of marching lock step with the party line of the Anti-American left is to long and consistant to see her as an innocent pawn.

Consider her long associations with the Hallinan Family.

Vincent Hallinan, ... was a founding member of the San Francisco chapter of the
National Lawyers Guild, officially designated a front of the Communist Party USA
Then we have her enthusiastic support for Commie Harry Bridges:
In 2001, Nancy Pelosi took to the pages of the Congressional Record to effuse her sentiments on the hundredth anniversary of Communist Party USA leader Harry Bridges' birth. Here is what she said: "Harry Bridges [was] arguably the most significant labor leader of the twentieth century," who was "beloved by the workers of this Nation, and recognized as one of the most important labor leaders in the world." She added: "The International Longshoremen's and Warehousemen's Union [was] the most progressive union of the time." In other words, this Communist-run union was more admirable than all of the anti-Communist unions.

Pelosi delivered this encomium a full nine years after Bridges's membership in the Communist Party USA Central Committee had been revealed

SOURCE (with citations): KeyWiki. There's more there - and on other websites - on these links, her links to ACORN, the Apollo Project and the full spectrum of Anti-American leftist groups and persons.

“The Cold War never really ended. The other side just went underground for awhile and reworked their strategy. Although technically the Cold War was the US vs. the USSR, in reality it was always more fundamentally free capitalist society built on individual self-determination vs. centralized socialist/communist society in which there is no individual freedom. As long as socialist/communist advocates exist and have a base from which to plot, the ‘Cold War’ will always exist. The collapse of the USSR actually made it easier for them in some ways, as the West stopped taking the threat seriously.”

-This clarity escapes today’s western intellectuals. Indeed, the Soviets went into hiding for now, but the ‘Cold War’ never ended, because it is a war of ideology on the most basic terms; Socialism/communism -vs- Free market capitalism/freedom.

PR is part of the United States. Probably not a huge target of course.

What if they targeted the distilleries? Is could endanger our nations rum supply. We would be dependent on foreign rum produces. What would we put in our Egg Nog! An attack on PR could bring about a chronic shortage of pastel hued umbrella drinks! There is a critical need to establish a strategic rum reserve. And the government needs to send me lots of money and rum to establish it. And few cases of coke. /sarc

Key West is actually further away than Miami since it wraps around to the west. The very southern tip of Florida is about 1750 km from the closest point in Chave’z territory. PR and USVI are much closer but don’t really represent the kind of target he would want. However if he can’t reach the mainland he may decide those places are close enough to make a point.

Dear Die Welt, We really appreciate your “concern” for the welfare of the USA, I am touched by your threats, er, warning. I presume you have no worries about Iran, Russia or the Mooslim problem, you are in a Euro bubble of protection with no threats from anyone. Keep up the good observations and watching our “back”. sarcasm/off
