EPA delays stricter smog, mercury limits

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Environmental Protection Agency is delaying new rules that would impose stricter limits on two key pollutants—smog and mercury—drawing complaints from environmental groups who say the Obama administration appears to be caving in to political pressure from congressional Republicans.

"It is hard to avoid the impression that EPA is running scared from the incoming Congress," said Frank O'Donnell, president of the advocacy group Clean Air Watch.

Republicans took control of the House and gained in the Senate in the midterm elections, and many GOP lawmakers have vowed to target the EPA for what they call a series of job-killing regulations. Environmental groups and some Democrats say the administration is delaying the new rules in an attempt to placate GOP lawmakers.

O'Donnell called the seven-month delay in the smog rule "a bitter pill to swallow" and said the EPA has had nearly a year to evaluate the rule since it was first proposed last January.

An EPA spokesman denied that politics played a role and said the delays were needed to ensure the agency's final decisions were grounded in the best science.

We should be going after real pollutants such as smog and mercury (you know...things that actually make people sick) instead of going nuts over soda bubbles.

Stricter mercury limits — does that mean that CFL bulbs will be illegal?

That in itself should have started a mass “OH NOES!” amongst the Leftist freakouts when Upton, and company produced the bill against incandescent bulbs.

I’ll never understand those nuts on the Left.

Now if the new mercury standards requires the ceasing of production of flouresenct light bulbs, that means we can go back to kerosene and whale oil lamps. Or bring back Edison’s incadesecent light bulbs.

Florida recently passed a law which requires legislative approval for any proposed regulation that exceeds $1 million in societal costs over five years.

If federal Congressman had to vote up or down on all of the wild eyed utopian schemes hatched by true environmental believers, little would pass and our republic would be much better off.

Would TSA be allowed to grope your daughter, wife or mother if Congress had to approve the practice?

Yes, I hope so.

Ban those ridiculous, feckless dim as Al Franken or Bill Maher bulbs!

EPA delays stricter smog, mercury limits

I would rather see the EPA disbanded entirely...

Unless ALL the bases of their decisions are confirmed by real scientists not related to public employees (aka welfare,) or supported by bureaucrats, NGOs or Soros-funded money launderers.

“O’Donnell called the seven-month delay in the smog rule “a bitter pill to swallow”

Can the eco-fascist O’Donnell swallow a couple of 2XL fists? That is the question...

“I’ll never understand those nuts on the Left.”

The last time I had a civilized discussion with an eco-fascist, he swore on his mother’s grave that CO 2 made up 40% of the Earth’s atmosphere. So that’s the baseline you’re starting with in any discussion of science with these moonbats. I almost convinced him that he was one generation removed from an ape, but his wife pulled him away from the bar. Damn!
