Elizabeth Edwards, the estranged wife of former Democratic North Carolina Senator and Vice Presidential candidate John Edwards died today, at the age of 61, after a grueling six year battle against cancer.
Edwards, it was announced yesterday, learned over the Thanksgiving holiday that her cancer had spread to her liver. Her doctors recently advised Edwards against further treatment and she returned home to be surrounded by her family as she passed.
Edwards faced not only cancer, but public humiliation when it was revealed that her husband carried on an affair while she was sick with campaign aide Rielle Hunter; an affair that ultimately resulted in Hunter's pregnancy. The Edwards separated earlier this year and were planning to divorce.
It has been reported that John Edwards was among his wife's bedside visitors in her dying days. If so, it is difficult to imagine what must have been going through his mind.
Does John Edwards regret cheating on his cancer stricken wife? Would he had been more, or less, likely to stray had his wife been healthy? How does he feel today as the mother of his children passes at a young age from a horrible disease?
Marriages of all sorts require work. No matter how deep the love, and no matter what the socio-economic status of the people involved, for two people to commit to each other for a lifetime, until death do them part, is the greatest commitment one can voluntarily make to another person. It's a different type of commitment than the one a parent makes to a child, in fact. There is nothing so great as a mother's love, it is said. In many ways, this makes the devotion and care that a parent demonstrates to their children easier, actually.

I hope that he is thinking of his kids and is remorseful of the pain he put his wife through while she was alive.
This is a great article though...don’t just read the excerpt.
I’ve read that she was no picnic to be around - very bossy, thought her husband was beneath her, make people cringe to the point no one wanted to be anywhere near her.
I wonder if she got that way trying to live with that shallow and weak man. I say weak because apparently he couldn’t stand up to his wife and when she got sick he went running off to find another woman to cling to.
Whatever the reason she sure went through hell and I hope now she’s in heaven and at peace.
Edwards is a crass and unnecessary person.
And I would like to think the Republican Party actually had a backbone and took the fight to Obama long enough for the DhimmiRat party to cave so all the Bush Tax Cuts for *everyone* were made permanent.
But neither is likely to happen now is it?
yikes
He is, which is why it is of no import what he is thinking upon the death of his wife.
Long before it became known that she was ill with cancer he was whoring around NYC telling his bimbo that he would marry her when his wife died.
Even his name turns my stomach.
that is a good get. well done!!!
Yep.
John Edwards is the ultimate narcissist. Lefty scum tends to be that way.

My thoughts exactly. But you just got to know he is looking over his shoulder from now on till the other shoe drops when he gets indicted. How sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet it is.
“He is a narcissist of the highest order.”
Indeed. In fact, such a high order narcissist that he’s crossed over slightly into the category of a classic psychopath. I’ve personally known people like John Edwards, though not as talented.
oops. I can’t believe I typed that. I know I was thinking it, but thought I typed something else. Sorry all! I mean to say John Edwards really did the wrong thing. Fitting to his nature though it seems as he is such a hypocrite in so many of his political standings.
“That being said, Elizabeth was no saint either.”
I’ve known people like her. In fact, being born and raised in North Carolina, I’ve known women VERY much like her. Extremely controlling, manipulative, cunning, vicious, vindictive, and greedy. Quite frankly, she and John Edwards deserved each other. I suspect both were borderline psychopaths.
And according to the news, Edwards former aids and donors have been seen in Raleigh in the past 2 weeks. Something is ready to happen. Bad timing again for the children.
Guessing the loss of their beloved mother is much worse than their father's scandalous affair.
Amen to that. All we can do is pray for the kids.
