WASHINGTON Rep. Joe Barton failed Tuesday in his bid to lead one of the Houses most powerful committees despite an aggressive campaign that involved mobilizing the support of tea party groups.

Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., won a vote of the GOP Steering Committee, a panel composed of party leaders. The appointment must be ratified by the full Republican conference on Wednesday.
Barton, R-Arlington, could challenge the decision by seeking a vote of the entire conference. It remained unclear Tuesday night whether he would do that.

Is this the same Upton that wants everyone to give up incandescent light bulbs?
The same.
And the GOP will again wonder WHY the voters won’t trust them.
Is this the same Upton that wants everyone to give up incandescent light bulbs?
The same — though NOW he’s saying he’s going to lead an effort to OVERTURN that very ban the HE sponsored and shepherded through Congress....RIGHT....
My understanding is that Barton said he would work to overturn the ban, and Upton said he’d form a panel to “look into it.”
And the GOP will again wonder WHY the voters wont trust them.

That’s what I thought, but I wanted to be sure.
DOWN WITH UPTON. Challenge the position!
One and the same.
LOL. That’s him.
This doesn’t speak well for Boehner.

GOP hasn’t gotten the message that status quo is not the way to go. Primaries are gonna be a bitch in 2012...
Yeah right. The only reason these fools make such foolish decisions in the first place is lobbyist money and lots of it. Now he's singing a different tune because he's running for a chairmanship.
Kind of makes him part of the problem.God, these fools are tone deaf.
Boehner is trying to install the wheelers and dealers right back into the places where they can do the most damage.
I guess the Republican elites didn’t get the memo. Oh well. We can kick their @$$e$ in ‘12 the way we did the dems this past fall.
Hey, elites, read the tea leaves.
You got that right this is an insurgency from the bottom up.
Good grief; these Republicans are stupid.
Reform of the DC regime is a fool’s errand. The longer it takes us to figure that out the greater the destruction will be.
