Hill Dems infuriated by W.H. tactics
Politico44 ^ | 12/07/10 | GLENN THRUSH

A nasty battle of the blind quotes is shaping up between the West Wing and Democratic leadership aides on the Hill.

Congressional Democrats are not so very thrilled with the message emanating from President Obama’s aides in the wake of the White House-GOP tax-cut deal – with one senior staffer accusing the president’s team of caving, then blaming congressional Democrats for lacking spine.

“When they want to fight, they know how to fight. When they want to cave, they know how to blame others,” said a disgusted senior Democratic congressional leadership aide. “Where’s the leadership?” asked another, who accused Obama of using Hill Democrats as “a human shield.”

I think what's actually going on here is that the Obama administration has gone into survival mode. It doesn't matter to Team Obama who's affected or how, so long as it helps them.

Obama's team is attempting to triangulate, similar to how Clinton did after the GOP gained control of Congress. However, unlike Clinton, who worked closely and quite cleverly with the Democrats in Congress, Obama's team is once again showing its ham-handedness and self-centered focus.

Although, to be fair, team Obama is probably correct to ignore them.

But the beauty of it is, this is generating more hard feelings, and increases the chances that Obama will face a primary challenge in 2012.

It's all good.

I don’t believe any of this. Democrats still control both houses of Congress. If Obama really supported this, it would be done already.

I don't know why - but this all seems like a grand show by all parties involved.
The White House, Democrats, AND Republicans.

Whether this bill passes, or not - it really doesn't address the larger problems. It just puts some spackle on the facade of a crumbling building. The Government has gotten too large, the Government pensions are out of control, and the only way to feed the Beast is to raise taxes - or keeping printing dollars without anything tangible to back it up...
So 'hurrah' for maintaining the Bush 'tax cuts' (they never were actual cuts) -- but this all feels like rearranging chairs on the Titanic.
The Dem Congress Critters get to scream their alleged outrage to satisfy their minions; the Republican Congress Critters get to stick out their chests and say they stood their ground (sort of) ... but nothing has been really fixed.

Rouse and Jarrett screwing up badly---I bet President Zero is sorely missing Rahm right now. Nasty tool that is was and remains, Rahm did know how to deal with Congress and beat the Rats into line.

On the other hand, Rouse, and especially Jarrett, are clueless.

I think what's actually going on here is that the Obama administration has gone into survival mode.

I think that's it exactly.

If Obama can blame about 50% of the country's problems on the Republicans, he'll look good.
If Obama can blame the other 50% of the country's problems on the Democrats in Congress, he'll look good.

All Obama has to do is lay low for 2 years, and blame people in both parties for everything that goes wrong -- and he could go down in history as one of our greatest presidents ever! [/s]

So long as the show involves running down the clock in the lame duck congress without much harm being done, I am happy.

“The socalists are in meltdown. The estate tax has them spinning.”

Take a peek at what is going on over at Daily kos.
It’s like walking through a funeral parlor full of mourning metrosexuals.

I REALLY fear that one of these disillusioned liberal crazies may try to do something stupid, and make a martyr of Obama.

The Democrat leadership knows something that the Republican leadership often forgets. The second worst thing a Congressional majority can do, is enact its opponents agenda.

When you do that, you can't run for reelection on what you have done, because your base hates it, the other base hates you anyway, and the middle knows very well that you wouldn't have done it if the other party hadn't been pushing for it. You can't run against what you have done, because, well, you did it. See the last Republican majority vis-a-vis McCain-Feingold, prescription drug benefit, riotous spending and deficits.
