A robot met its end near Coors Field tonight when the Denver Police Department Bomb Squad detonated the "suspicious object," bringing to an end the hours-long standoff between police and the approximately eight-inch tall figurine.
Denver Police Spokesman Matt Murray said that a citizen called police at 3:27 p.m. to report the presence of the plastic white toy robot cemented to the base of a pillar supporting a footbridge near the intersection of 20th and Wazee streets. Police closed 20th Street between Blake Street and Chestnut Place, but did let a few people past the police tape to retreive cars parked in nearby lots. Nobody was allowed within about 100 yards of the robot.

This is really sad, but completely true!
Heres a video that I have to admit if I was in the Statue of Liberty and saw this coming I would probably be on alert.

The terrorist of the world must be laughing their ass off at how easy it is to bring things to a screeching halt in this land of pantie waisted, limp wristed, PC correct, ignorant, helpless people who want to be protected from everything possible. One cop with a service automatic shooting from behind a nearby bridge pillar could have done the same thing in a matter of minutes.
This is mild. A few weeks ago I finished a cyclocross race in very muddy conditions. I got back to my car, loaded the bike, and changed my shoes. The shoes that I raced in had a lot of mud accumulated on them, so I hit the pavement with the shoes to knock off much of the mud. Then I got told that I was intimidating people by doing such a violent act. This is in Pansysota. The people here would be absolutely terrorized if they were around a bunch of construction carpenters at work!

Oh come on...don’t you ever wing a few shots in the K-Mart parking lot just to make yourself feel better? ;-)
What freedom did anyone give up in this case? The freedom to glue a toy robot to a cement pedestal without having it subsequently blown up? I'm okay with giving up that particular freedom.

You’re right, of course.
I probably would have too. I'm known by my friends as a bit of a nut because I walk up to duffel bags, suitcases, boxes, etc that have been left unattended and open them up to see what's in them. I figure if it's a bomb, my death will be quick. :)
But in this case, people were freaked out and called in the authorities to deal with it. And naturally, the authorities have very strict rules to protect the front line folks as much as possible. I don't have a problem with that.
