"PC World reports that women are more likely to buy an iPhone for their next smartphone purchase, while men prefer Android devices. According to data collected in October 2010, 31 percent of women wanted to buy an Apple iOS device next, followed by 22.8 percent interested in a Google Android device while among men preferences were reversed with 32.6 percent of men interested in an Android purchase and 28.6 desired an iOS phone. 'So where is the extra appeal of Android to men coming from?' asks Tracey E. Schelmetic. 'More male-targeted commercials that emphasize cool gadgetry versus usability? More techno-macho phone brand names like "Droid"? Extra advertising on the Spike channel by phone makers using the Android platform?'"
Cherry 2000 model coming soon?
I'm an embedded software guy. Who would ever figure me as a luddite? ;-D
I remember that movie....
While I can’t speak for other men.. but my hubby likes the way it says “DROID”. He also likes the HD video. I don’t like his virtual touch screen, or rather it hates my long nails. He sent a message that said Seizure with it’s speech to text while I was in church, which scared me momentarily. He is a gadget guy, what can I say? He wants the latest and greatest (that we can afford).

So seriously...(and I realize this is going to get real stupid, real quick)...I’d like to move to something different than the Blackberry Curve I’m using on the Sprint network.
I’d like to hear some really good recommendations from FReepers re the whole gamut...Best value, best coverage, best devices, best “service”, etc.
I use my mobile mostly for voice, 2nd for email. The email is mostly for reading, not composing/sending, although I do reply to urgent stuff. I do SOME text...but not gobs.
Don’t really require a lot of browsing, but every once in a while I’d use it if it wasn’t so dang slow. It’d be great if the browsing was fast and easy.
I’m pretty sophisticated on data/PC stuff, but I just haven’t tried to stay “current” on the phone/PDA stuff. And, DANG, when I went to compare devices, plans, etc. the choices were mind-boggling.
So a little direction/advice here (no matter how conflicting) would be terrific!
Thanks for your help, in advance...
Hey! REAL MEN use IOS, with the CLI!
Who needs those sissy graphical interfaces? Besides, the only use a REAL MAN has for a graphical interface is to have multiple terminal screens open at once!
Huh? What do you mean they’re not talking about Cisco’s IOS?
Mark
Did you post this 3x from your iPhone? *\;^)
Seriously, I like my Android phone despite its shortcomings.
Marketing: An "android" is a human-impersonating robot. Not a green R2D2 with antennae. "Droid" sounds like something from "A Clockwork Orange."
Technical: I don't like the efforts to cripple it (no Outlook sync, no tethering -- and yes, some of this seems to be my carrier).
Typing on touch screen doesn't work well for me. On good days Swype works really well. On bad days, well... there's a reason this gadget guy gave up on falling over the bleeding edge.
I love this cartoon..I posted it on my FACEBOOK page!
Ping.
If you want on or off the Mac Ping List,
I am far too practical to have an iPhone.. mine is an old Blackberry. I have a Mac and would love an iphone, but I live in the mountains, only Verizon is reliable here.
For major carriers it is tough to beat Sprint for value. I know they have upgraded their customer service recently, but it has been lacking for a while. T-Mobile usually does really well in the customer service department, but has a smaller footprint. AT&T and Verizon are more expensive.
The Evo 4G is the flagship phone on Sprint right now. If you aren’t going to be typing a lot then the virtual keyboard should be no problem. With a 4.3 inch screen even the biggest fingers should be fine in any case. Battery life is questionable of course with such a big screen. someone who actually has one would have to give you real world experience with that. I have the T-Mo version of the Epic 4G. I like it a lot. The Epic has several things my phone does not, front facing camera, flash on the back camera and a hardware keyboard. I have fiddled with the Epic and wasn’t that impressed with the keyboard as I recall. I think the phone itself is really good though.
The military has already deployed an iOS ballistics calculator with a ruggedized, dampened holder for the hardware that attach to your rifle's rails. I like the combination of old and new. Just consider iOS to be another example of embedded software.
AT&T just got rated the worst carrier. I’d suggest waiting for Verizon if you want an iPhone.
Android works. But it is more fragmented, you can’t say one thing about the user experience because it is different on different carriers. So check for yourself and form your own opinion.
But in general it is less polished and responsive than the iPhone. I bought an Android phone earlier this year, and my first-generation iPod Touch from three years ago has a more responsive user interface.
