The world's largest army? America's hunters
Redding.com ^ | December 6, 2010

Posted on 12/06/2010 5:09:18 PM PST by SJackson

I don't spend my fall weekends tramping around the woods in pursuit of a buck, but a lot of my friends and neighbors do.

This blogger adds up all the hunters in just a handful of states, and comes to a striking conclusion:

The state of Wisconsin has gone an entire deer hunting season without someone getting killed. That's great. There were over 600,000 hunters.

Allow me to restate that number. Over the last two months, the eighth largest army in the world - more men under arms than Iran; more than France and Germany combined - deployed to the woods of a single American state to help keep the deer menace at bay.

But that pales in comparison to the 750,000 who are in the woods of Pennsylvania this week. Michigan's 700,000 hunters have now returned home. Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia, and it is literally the case that the hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world.

His point? America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of home-grown firepower.

Hunting -- it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a matter of national security.

sadly the vast majority not only pay tribute to the 'king' to shoot 'his' deer, theyll willingly trade their heirloom rifles for a gift certificate to kroger, in order to avoid a 'felony' for non-compliance to piecemeal 'safety' bans...

on the bright side, the III percent that wont could still kick france' ass while curing the disease that is DC...

we are in the staring contest now with the polidiots refusing to throttle back the progressive agenda...theyve passed the point of no return, so whos gonna blink ???

A country that is capable of invading the US is capable of reducing it to a de-populated nuclear wasteland. Citizens with guns are an irrelevence to national defence when your country has enough WMDs to wipe out the planet...

Thats why we have a formal military: to stop big stuff outside our borders.

Any attempts at subjugation (vs. obliteration) still requires boots on the ground, which our army of snipers would handily dispatch.

That’s why the groups would have to remain small and autonomous, like the Tea Party.

It drives the left nuts that they can’t find “the leader” of the Tea Party and single him out for destruction.

A Russian Mosin Nagant, shoots a 7.62x54 round.

Recent gun show - vendor had 2 cases of these and cans and cans of ammo. They were gone by the end of the show.

So you disarm the civilian population, and rely on the political leadership being willing to use nukes rather than face a military defeat? I don't have words to tell you how bad that idea is.

They are a great piece, not only because they are a piece of history but the accuracy is just amazing.

And you can find them dirt cheap.

Sure. Deer do not shoot back with automatic weapons or mini guns from aircraft. But go ahead if it makes you sleep better at night.

US military snipers still use, on the whole, bolt action rifles which are little different from their counterparts from a century ago. ...and not just so they can sleep better at night.

Google “shoot twice and go home”.

I can’t really imagine any country being so reckless as to try and invade a nation with a global nuclear reach, but even if they were, I couldn’t really see them getting past the largest and most technologically advanced military in the world.
Guns in the arms of citizens are more relevant vs criminals and a tyrannical government, but with a foreign invader, they are a moot point....

We only have the 6th largest army in the world, and I don’t trust the politicans to maintain our technologcial advantage. Too many of them would gladly gut our military budget and abandon the federal government’s responsibility to provide for the national defense to pay for more welfare programs.

Wow, for that price how many did you buy?

I've got two and paid $20 more than that price.

The nice part is that my class 3 license gets me front door delivery. No FFL handling fee ($25) and no Brady Bill tax ($25).

Those guns are fun to shoot but I've had brusies more than once! They get your attention!

I didn’t buy one, but my friend bought one.
I figured I’d see how he likes it, and shoot it a few times myself,

then pick up one at the next show. It seems there are crates of these things available.

I can get the contact info of the vendor if you want to ask him where he got them.

And if one decided to go on a no-support suicide mission, how much damage could he wreak?
Times a million like minded?
If each decided to “shoot twice and go home”?

“Big armor” is only good against governments and high value targets. They are nigh unto worthless against individuals.
