I don't spend my fall weekends tramping around the woods in pursuit of a buck, but a lot of my friends and neighbors do.
This blogger adds up all the hunters in just a handful of states, and comes to a striking conclusion:
The state of Wisconsin has gone an entire deer hunting season without someone getting killed. That's great. There were over 600,000 hunters.
Allow me to restate that number. Over the last two months, the eighth largest army in the world - more men under arms than Iran; more than France and Germany combined - deployed to the woods of a single American state to help keep the deer menace at bay.
But that pales in comparison to the 750,000 who are in the woods of Pennsylvania this week. Michigan's 700,000 hunters have now returned home. Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia, and it is literally the case that the hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world.
His point? America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of home-grown firepower.
Hunting -- it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a matter of national security.
“I have often said that North Dakota could take France”
Actually, can’t everywhere pretty much take France?
I know EXACTLY what you are saying:
Try digging somebody outta here sometime...
Nice pic.
I can envision myself there with a hammock, a fishing rod and a cooler, awaiting “rescue”.
Not so.
During WW2 the Germans took over Yugoslavia. Josip Broz, also known as Tito, was the most powerful resistance leader. He was interviewed early in the war, and asked the following question:
“How can your men, armed largely with old rifles, possibly hope to defeat the Wehrmacht and its new Panzers?”
Tito’s answer displayed both his tactical and strategic genius:
“When the Germans come out of their new tanks to take a piss, my men will shoot them with their old rifles.”
It is all about choosing the time and place of battle and, for an inferior force, avoiding the enemy’s strength. We have and are actively using the same weapons you speak of right NOW, yet the ill-educated, cave-dwelling, worshippers of a murderous pedophile are still fighting us-and it is WE who will leave soon, as did the Russians and British before us. Your “analysis” takes no account of strategy, tactics or willpower, a mistake made by many.
Here in America, the high-crime areas are the areas that have the most onerous gun control laws. This is because criminals feel secure operating in an environment where law-abiding citizens are unarmed.
This article has much merit. Millions of well-armed Americans bode well for our security. Let's hope the gun-grabbers never achieve their goals.
Losses are expected in all battles. Just how many missiles do you think exist and how long would it be before the World’s Largest Army tyook control of the assembly plant?
Ol' fashioned ???

if you need verification, ask my brother...
They can’t be everywhere at once and while they’re getting a bite, the rest of us will get a mouthful.
A few years back while Henry Waxman was ranting about .50 cal rifles, he estimated that there was one in every county in Michigan. (that’s 83)
I had to laugh when he said it because I knew of at least 4 people in my county who owned one.
“And such was Yamamotos assessment of the basic impossibility of any assault on the American west coast.”
Stalin asked the KGB (1951)how Russia would control the US if we went to war. The report said “You can’t control the US. Too many rifles”.
Armies are beaten by attacking their logistics and retricting their ability to move and destroying their ability to communicate, not necessarily head on assaults.
The situation here is a bit different from most other countries for the following reasons:
Ownership of arms and use of them is widespread. Americans are terrific shooters.
Knowledge of military tactics is widepsread.
Other knowledge, such as chemical and explosive knowledge is widespread because many of our populace use the knowledge frequently (farmers and ranchers, coal industry). Also because we publish it in our newspapers upon occasion.
Small machine shops, whether commercial or hobby type operations in the garage are very common.
I don’t see any power on the horizon that will be capable of taking us down in the foreseeable future. Some of the crazies in the world see it differently, but they hesitate to take us on.
“Armies beat armies, insurgents beat politicians”. Just look at our own history in Viet Nam, Iraq and Afghanistan. The Demos are constantly trying to surrender to someone, anyone, and have over the years, created a really serious problem as some of the nut bags in the world have figured out that many of our politicians are pansies.
1 sq mile = 27,878,400 sq ft
Blast area of 1 missile (500 ft radius) = 785,398 sq ft (assuming circular blast area)
# missiles per sq mile = 27,878,400 sq. ft / 785,398 sq ft = 35.49 ~ 36 missiles (I would have rounded down to 35 but that leaves approx. 8.6 acres untouched by missiles and a hunter could be on that land)
1,000,000 hunters based on 5 hunters per sq. mile takes up 200,000 sq. miles. (Assuming contiguous area)
Therefore to cover 200,000 sq. miles with 36 missiles per sq. mile would take 7,200,000 missiles (7.2 million)
I can't help it. I was curious. I have the “knack” and I'm an engineer. I think we will be able to defend our country.
:-)
Undoubtedly - you are correct.
The Warsaw Uprising in 1943 was begun with 11 guns the Jews managed to find/steal. They used those to get others. It took the Germans a month to wipe them out. With 11,000 guns or more, they could have held out longer. Winning was out of the question in that instance. However, not every struggle between unequal opponents comes out that way....Vietnam, Afghanistan, and other insurgencies are proof that superior technology does not automatically confer victory.

“Many of those went home to grab their muzzleloaders.”
lol! So true, so true. Of course, out here it’s Pheasant Season so we grab our shotguns.
“One hunter or a million with a 7mm against satellite guided missiles operated from thousands of miles away is not much of a defense.”
So why are we still over there in the sandbox fighting rusted AK-47s? Also, we Americans built those “satellite guided missiles” and those satellites. We can remove them just as well if they are ever turned on us.
That’s Michigan??? I would have sworn it was a bayou in louisiana.
Nearly 500,000 deer hunters in Missouri” per Missouri Department of Conservation.
