Obama, Republicans reach deal to extend tax cuts, unemployment benefits
State-Controlled Washington Post ^ | Dec. 6 | By Comrade Shailagh Murray

President Obama and congressional Republicans have agreed to a tentative deal that would extend for two years all the tax breaks set to expire on Dec. 31, continue unemployment benefits for an additional 13 months and cut payroll taxes for workers to encourage employers to start hiring.

The deal has been in the works for more than a week and represents a concession by Obama to political reality: Democrats don't have the votes in Congress to extend only the expiring tax breaks that benefit the middle class. The White House estimates that the proposed agreement would prevent typical families from facing annual tax increases of about $3,000, starting Jan. 1.

Obama was able to extract an agreement from GOP leaders to support an additional 13 months of jobless benefits, a 2 percent employee payroll tax cut and extensions of several tax credits aimed at working families that were included in the stimulus bill.

How long do you think this nation can carry the weight of those collecting, ripping off the government and living off the increasing minority of those of us who are employed ?

13 months? months? I’m aghast at that length of time. But why I’m still amazed at the craziness that is DC beats me. How long before we kick these socialist loons out of there.

13 months. I’m still muttering. No incentive to work at all.

I wish that there would be an understanding that not much can be done even with the 2010 landslide. We do not have the Senate or the Presidency. It will be touch and go until 2012 and nothing will change that fact. To those that expect anything different are in a dream world. I would like total change but I have to live in the real world. America is still in trouble as long as we have a communists Administration and the communists in control of the Senate.

This is not a sell out. It puts the tax situation front and center in the 2012 election. The voters should be forced to choose what they want. The problem is that too many voters want non-reality. They want low taxes and lots of government spending.

The reality is that January 1 low income taxpayers were going to have a tax increase just like the higher tax brackets. Who knows which party they would blame the most? This was a good compromise. The goal is to win the war. Not every skirmish. The bottom line is that everyone’s income taxes stay the same for two more years. The estate tax compromise will be a lot less confiscatory than what was going to happen automatically on 1/1/11. When we increase the conservative majority next election we can further fix things.

" . . where is the incentive to work?"

You're kidding, right? The incentive to work comes from the fact that UE bennies don't even cover expenses. What do you guys think, we're vacationing in the Costa Azul?

I honestly see this as more of a victory than a defeat. Tax rates unchanged, Obama admitting that tax cuts do indeed work (payroll deduction), and Obama having to go back on one of his big campaign promises. Nope, this looks like a victory for the American people (and our ideology) making Obama look bad to his own base in the process.

They are "series" and pissed just won't get close to the adjectives that they are using.

I was going to copy a couple but you all know their favorite word{s] any of which will get you booted from FR.

This is not a bad deal. This is the lame duck session and the Dems still control all. This gives us 2 years to take the Senate, strengthen the House and makes tax cuts a viable issue for the 2012 race. Any time tax cuts is an issue, conservatives win big. It will be even bigger during a down economy.

Keep your powder dry, this is an opportunity to organize, not a reason to break ranks.

NO DEALS! It’s cheaper not to extend the taxes. The GOP is dead.

death tax is gone for two years also......the GOP, (Sarah) gets to run on making the taxes permanent against an Obama who will want to kill them....

What more could you ask for......We will still have the house in the lame duck and probably the senate a month away.

I bet the 99ers are skipping with joy tonight.

If this happens, you will now refer to them as the 155ers.

I say 'if' because Sheppy Smith just read statements from Boehner and a dem aide saying that this has to be debated on by the factions in the House. Maybe this isn't a done deal yet.

What's up with this two year temporary crap?!

All of Bush's tax cuts should have been made permanent.

None of the unemployment benefits should have been extended.

I damn well hope all Conservatives remember this Republican sellout.

Does someone want to start a 2010-2011 RINO list?

The tax code is the biggest shell game there is, they’ll find a way to get their taxes, probably by rigging the A.M.T again.

You’re right. Please forgive me. I will abandon the gains we have made and if my candidate does not win in the primary I will not vote. Not that this reasoning is what got us where we are now.
