“The Dallas Sports writers said that Dandy Don was a thorn in Landry’s side cause of his extemporaneous play calling.”

Sounds just like Brett Favre. Always annoying his coaches with unplanned audibles.

It was worse. Tom Landry had a play book but Dandy Don would often kneel in the huddle and draw plays on the ground. During the game against the Giants he did this several times and the plays worked.

He also called a play that was unique. He took the ball from center and junped into the air and threw an honest to God basketball chest pass. It was completed for two yards bu the tight end who caught it on the run and advanced for more that 20 yards.

The team followed hin because he was a great leader.!
