We east Texans are proud of native son Dandy Don. He was an outstanding athlete in both football and basketball and a great entertainer.

When a football game gets out of hand and I lose interest, I reach for the remote and sing “Turn out the lights” just like Don taught us. Now that has an additional meaning.

Don and his wife Susan graced us with their presence for an event in Santa Fe a few years back. A gentle man, and a gentlemen.
I will remember him fondly for that home-style wit.

When driving up I-30 to Little Rock (from Dallas), I always think of Don Meredith when I pass the the Mt.Vernon exit.

He was also a two-time All-American while playing QB at Southern Methodist University as the 1950's came to a close.
