10 minutes into Sara Palin's acceptance speech at the 2008 GOP Convention, I turned to my wife and said: "You're looking at the first female POTUS."

I still think that.

Wolf Blitzer, with CNN said, “It wasn’t just a home run, it may have been a grand slam.” And NBC’S Tom Brokaw said, “A very auspicious debut.” Jeff Greenfield, with CBS said, “Perfect populist pitch.”

Chris Wallace (Fox), Anderson Cooper and Wolf Blitzer (CNN), all agree on one thing: “A Star is Born.”

10 minutes into Sara Palin's acceptance speech at the 2008 GOP Convention

I recall her suddenly stopping her speech, facing the audience and giving the brief hocky-mom comments. I thought that rather strange. Then, she continued on, without missing a beat.

Why the pause? That was when the teleprompter broke. She used the hocky-mom comments to gather her thoughts. She didn't panic.

After she finished her speech, the media commentators mentioned that the teleprompter had broken down.

The irony now, two years later, is that The One can hardly even make normal political comments without a teleprompter. Sarah Palin basically have her acceptance speech at the GOP Convention, broadcast to multi-millions, without the teleprompter.

Notice the contrast: 7:36 minutes of Obama without being able to refer to his teleprompter
