Liam Neeson has caused controversy by suggesting that Aslan, the Christlike character in C.S. Lewis’s Narnia books, could represent the prophet Mohammed or Buddha.
The actor who voices the lion in the film adaptations of the books has angered some fans of the stories, who claim he is distorting Lewis’s intentions to be “politically correct”.
Aslan the lion features in all seven Narnia books, guiding children away from evil and harm and encouraging them to do good.
Lewis was clear that the Aslan was based on Christ, and once wrote of the character: “He is an invention giving an imaginary answer to the question: “What might Christ become like if there really were a world like Narnia?”.”

If you don’t like the rules, go somewhere else. There are plenty of forums that allow that silly behavior.
C.S. Lewis knew Mohammed’s teaching was of the devil. No way is Aslan depicting anything other than Jesus Christ, Redeemer, Son of the True God.
The backlash will probably come from Muslims, who clearly do NOT like it when any visual representation is applied to Mohammed. The implication Liam is making will piss them off.
If you’ve not seen it, 1986’s “The Mission” is a great film with him, De Niro, and Jeremy Irons. I wonder if he’d claim the Jesuits portrayed as being wiped out by the Portugese would by synonymous with Buddhists being wiped out by Muslims, or Christians being bombed by Muslims, etc, etc.
Suggesting that Aslan is Mohammed really is a light-year stretch.

On the profanity thread, a few Freepers acknowledged that they could / would do better with language. That’s all I am hoping for.
For me & my rather “rough” existence the past couple decades, cinema has provided me a wonderful escape to fantasy/pleasure
everyone gets something different from their experiences.
I dont go into ANY movie prejudging. I go to be entertained & thanking the multitude(like thousands) who worked for the production. I am rarely disappointed. I am a bit more discriminating than those would make me out to be but I am a whole lot more tolerant & receptive than 90% of the FRreepers who post.
You are good to read ahead of time. At one time I read more. This past summer was Ayn Rand. Her works, biops, etc.
Beginning in Jan will do one of the Harry potter movies a month & then watch the movie. I have seen all the movies but KNOW the fog I experience is due to a combo of ADD & just not knowing enough. My gal-pal patty is joining me in this journey. We will discuss book over dinner & then watch flick together. Will culminate in July. I wont read the 7 book prior to seeing the final installment on 3D big screen. will read book after & see movie again(no doubt several times, as I have all the others)
I wasn’t altogether serious about creating an anti-”I’d hit it” vanity. I need to put my little smiley face up more frequently. My sense of humor is not always evident. And that’s great a few folks have done better with the language. It is rather grating, especially when it’s geared right at ya. Pays to speak up!

I know the vulgarity & don't look for it or appreciate it. There are plenty of sites where you or others who are “more tolerant” can go. I have checked them out & no longer frequent.
I am a big movie buff. I was before I joined FR in 2003 involved in many movie forums. The language was very uncomfortable to me. I now never go there. Don't even have the links as I changed computers a few times.
There are forums for everyone. is this one perfect? probably not, but it has the best of many things I hold dear to me. There are a lot of movie enthusiasts’ here. We often get wiped out by the purists who think all cinema is either sin/anti-American/useless.. OR ALL.
It is one of my top avocations & am grateful for my cinema buddies who are still here after the many purges.
I read the series along with Mere Christianity and other CS Lewis when I was a teenager in the 70’s. My favorite is ‘The Last Battle’ but was thinking last night again what I have always felt - words cannot describe the last scene in the book and how no man will ever be able to come close, here on Earth, to being able to describe it to reality - because “No eye has seen, nor ear has heard...”
Might not be the moderator. Certain ‘’auto-censor’’ type programs kick in on certain letter combinations like a double ‘’s’’ or something. I once tried to use the term ‘’intellectual Fagin’’ on a web-site to describe Ward Churchill and it kept getting scrubbed because of the ‘f’ ‘’a’ ‘’g’’ spelling , well, I think it’s obvious. Just saying...

When I find a thread in the reliigon forum(s), I tread carefully because that’s a fairly specific place, so I respect it. I regard the general forums very differently, like being out on the street.
Just like I don’t swear in church or temple.

Actually Turkish Delight is a candy, popular in England, with origins in the Middle East. It has nothing directly to do with Islam. In “The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe” the magically modified Turkish Delight is simply a vehicle for the White Queen to influence Edmund to betray his siblings. Not because it is Islamic, but because candy is tempting to a child.
This stuff is absurd and Neeson is showing himself to be a world class illiterate. For which Savior did Lewis write lengthy apologetics?
That sounds like a lot of fun. I've enjoyed reading the books, seeing the movies, and discussing them with my husband and teenagers.

I like marathon movie watching. I’ve been avoiding the replays of the Potter movies on the tele because when they’re all available on DVD, I intend to take a weekened and watch them all in sequence. The aging of the actors should be an interesting aspect.
