Emergency vessels are expected to reach a cargo ship struggling off Alaska's remote Aleutian Islands by Saturday evening. The 738-foot Golden Seas is carrying nearly half a million gallons of fuel oil and a full load of canola seed. Engine problems caused it to drift in strong winds and rough waters on Friday.
Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Dana Warr says the ship was able to motor under limited power away from land Friday night and Saturday, easing fears that it might run aground and break apart on Atka Island, about 1,300 miles southwest of Anchorage.
Plans call for a powerful tug boat to tow the Golden Seas to port in Dutch Harbor, 275 miles away, by Sunday night or Monday morning.

Hope the Coast Guard is successful in their effort to rescue this ship.
Got Lloyd’s Form? LOL

"Hey! I can see that ship from here."
:-)
USCG has been busy lately. Remember, they were on scene to rescue and assist the cruise ship adrift off Mexico last month. They’re involved in adventure all the time, just don’t usually get much publicity for it.
This situation in the Aleuts, I would guess, depends a lot on weather....
Me need explanation.
Haha, cute. She’s inland hunting at the moment, isn’t she?
I have no idea where she is at the moment.
I hope they save it, not only for the sake of the ship and crew, but because if we get another damned oil spill, Obama will probably use it to shut down the entire industry. Never waste a good crisis.
“full load of canola seed”
Theres no such thing as a canola seed. There is rapeseed, which used to be made into oil. But since it’s name gave everyone a case of the vapors,, they changed the old rapeseed oil to “canola”, (canadian oil, low-acid)
Don’t believe me? Look it up on the google!
Follow-up for everyone: Crippled ship due Tuesday at Dutch Harbor, Alaska
Will Sarah be there to greet the ship?
:^)
Good news! Glad they saved the ship and crew.
