Another earth-shattering Wiki (non) secret...Turkey would love to re-create the Ottoman Empire!

No $hit, skippy!

The only reason nobody has drilled Assange a new anus in his forehead is because it would largely be a waste of a perfectly good bullet. This guy is an attention whore of the first degree, and I wonder if the best thing to do wouldn’t be to ignore him. He couldn’t stand it...

I’m sure Erogan (Turkish PM) has ambitions of reconquering Greece and the Balkans for Turkey. Heck, Obama might even help.

More evidence that many other moves, and military expenditures and acquisitions of military abilities, have less to do with actual Turkish security needs, and more to do with the Islamic ruling parties desire to promote Turkey as a power-player in the region.

Right now I think he's got his hands full just trying to conquer Turkey.

I have spent a lot of time in Turkey, and have the sense that the Turks are quite happy being Turks owning Turkey and have no grand imperila ambitions. They have a deep sense of history and don't see a future in trying to take on all the problems of the Balkans and Middle East.

In short, it sounds as though what is frightening in this cable is its apalling ineptness.

One major problem is the "mountain Turks". Erdogan would not be PM without them. They are Kurds and very disassified with the status quo. They are very Islamic and a death threat to Attaturks nation. Erdogan is manipulating them as it is so easy. Turkey as you see it is sadly dead.

I am merely commenting on the idiocy of an American Diplomatic cable suggesting in all seriousness that the Turks wish to reestablish the Ottomon Empire. Whatever the problem with the Kurds, they are not the heritors of the Ottomon empire. In fact their issue is that they want to split off and form a united Kurdistan from parts of Turkey, Iran, and other parts of the region.

The issue is that they now control Ankara.
