Newt Gingrich: "We are not going to deport 11 million people"
Politico ^ | 12/2/10 | KENDRA MARR

Posted on 12/02/2010 1:05:36 PM PST by WilliamHouston

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has a bold goal for the next decade: Overhaul the country's immigration system so that every worker in the United States is legal.

"We are not going to deport 11 million people," Gingrich said Thursday as he kicked off his first forum on Latino issues. "There has to be some zone between deportation and amnesty."

A possible presidential candidate, Gingrich stressed that his target of establishing an entirely legal work force is "not a call for amnesty." Rather, he said, it's about applying common sense to the immigration debacle.

"Dos y dos son cuatro" (two plus two equals four), he said to chuckles. . .

These a$$hole politicians like Gingrich and McCain think we are fools. They just change the meaning of words. McCain said his plan wasn't an amnesty.

Any legislation that legalizes the status of those who broke our laws by entering our country illegally and allows them to stay is amnesty.

The proponents of amnesty are wont to create the false choice between a blanket amnesty and mass deportation of 12 to 20 million illegal aliens. In reality, we have other choices and alternatives that don’t reward people who have broken our laws with the right to stay and work here and an eventual path to citizenship. The 12 to 20 million illegal aliens did not enter this country overnight and they will not leave overnight. Attrition through enforcement works. We have empirical data from Georgia, Oklahoma, and Arizona proving that it does.

"There has to be some zone between deportation and amnesty."

No, there isn't. The law calls for them to be arrested and deported. If they're not arrested and deported, that's amnesty, because they're getting no punishment for breaking the law.

These politicians must think we're all stupid. I remember Bush wanting to let illegals stay, but claiming it "wasn't amnesty" because they weren't getting automatic citizenship! Most illegals don't even WANT citizenship! It's like saying, "The burglar who broke into your house last night is going to get to stay. But it's okay! It's not amnesty or anything, because he's not going to get your master bedroom, just the smaller bedroom."

>>Newt Gingrich: “We are not going to deport 11 million people”<<

Hey Newt. I got an idea: Let’s start deporting and when we get to a point where we just can’t do it any more, let’s stop.

"Anyone paying attention should not be suprised by Newt’s comments."

Yep...he's a weasel who's sold out his own lame-ass "revolution". Gingrich is all conservative hat and no conservative cattle. I have no idea why he thinks he stands a snowball's chance in hell in the 2012 primaries.

Uh, no, it's not.

A possible presidential candidate, Gingrich stressed that his target of establishing an entirely legal work force is "not a call for amnesty." Rather, he said, it's about applying common sense to the immigration debacle.

Common sense here used in the same context of "common-sense" gun laws. Meaning what is being proposed is anything but.

If you don't want deportation, don't mention self-deportation but say all workers should be legal, guess what? You're in McCain's never-never land where amnesty isn't actually amnesty.

They don’t even need to do the deportation...they just need to pass legislation that they are going to deport them and they will leave immediately...just like in AZ, etc...

That should be step 1. Let people come in through the front door and follow the legal steps to immigration.

This is incredible. I have lost so much respect for Gingrich...he is just another sleazy politician bent on screwing the hard working American people. Total disgrace.

If the republicans nominate another liberal, they are sowing the seeds of their own party’s destruction. There will be a third party that will replace these dims that refuse to be what they know in their hearts that they are... dims!

Oh, in practicality that is a better way to get them to leave than to try to deport every one of them. But Newt’s saying we’re not going to enforce our laws by either de facto or de jure deporting them, that we’re going to let them stay. And if you let them stay you are offering them amnesty.
