I'm conservative and like football, but two of my kids played soccer for years. Not everyone is built for football, and some parents would prefer that their kids not be fattened up to 280 pounds so they can die at 53 of a heart attack.

Some parents don’t see a point in having their sons break bones in a pile of sweaty men (with injuries that can stay with them for the rest of their lives), when they can get a great cardiovascular workout (without resting on the bench between sets of downs). Some soccer fans think the NFL is for ghetto thugs...
