Former U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, actor Rainn Wilson and ex-Playboy executive Christie Hefner are among the entering class in New Trier Township High School's alumni Hall of Honor awards.
Among those not making the cut were actress Ann-Margaret and Chicago mayoral candidate Rahm Emanuel.
The honorees were said to embody the Winnetka school's mission "to commit minds to inquiry, hearts to compassion and lives to the service of humanity."

Maybe if he had stuck with his ballet lessons and stayed out of politics, he would have been more politely received.
My Alma Mater. Great school, not so great kids of the well-to-do.
How could they not let Ann-Margaret in???
I guess John Stossel didn’t make it.
They picked Rainn Wilson but not Ann-Margret?
Dummies!
Charlton Heston went there, right?
Yes, and Ann Margeret too. We do have some great Alums. :)
As a lifelong Chicagoan, how did Rahm manage to attend New Trier High School, it is not part of the CPS is it? It seems to quite distant from Chicago’s Albany Park.
“How could they not let Ann-Margaret in???”
And they chose Christie Hefner instead?
There were a number of kids I knew from my time there whose parents specifically moved into the area so the kids could attend there. At that time the school was divided in into two parts, East and West. I think he was at New Trier West.
Probably because she unselfishly gave of her time, beauty and talent to entertain the troops in Vietnam. It doesn't fit the lakefront liberal profile.

I remember way back in my days at NTHS in 50's watching an 8mm film of Shakespere's "Julius Caesar" made by Heston while he was a student there, using the columns at old Soldier Field for the set. Another grad was Roy Fitzgerald, who later changed his name to Rock Hudson. One time in junior English class, one of the girls came in late and blurted out "Rock Hudson just drove up outside in a Cadillac convertible!!" Every girl in the class jumped up and ran outside to see him.
Don't think Rummy does, either.....
Great story!
Emanuel grew up in the suburb of Wilmette, on Ramona Road, a VERY wealthy area. He probably had no connection to Chicago other than the household help lived there.
Ann Margaret was a beloved lady to the 25th Inf.Div. Grunts. I think she must have arrived with Bob Hope prior to Chistmas '67... that was the year Raquel came to dance with wild abandon in her short, short knit mini-skirt. I've still got the 8x10 glossy to prove it.
None of us will ever forget that day. God Bless them all, and the USO, for caring enough to show up.
Possibly just snobs rather than dummies. When Ann Margret Olsen (as she was then known) attended New Trier, the fact that she lived with her mom in the back of a funeral home tainted her with a “wrong side of the tracks” reputation. By the time I met her at Northwestern University, no one cared where she came from; her talent was too blindingly obvious. She was also one of the sweetest and most gracious of the many beautiful young women on campus.
Incidentally, one of her sorority sisters later married Rich (later “Dick” for PC reasons) Gephardt.
I agree with Mr. K, Ann-Margaret being excluded is unbelieveable.
He had a condo in Highland park. Of course, he had it on long-term lease to a friend, but he didn't tell them about that.
