Sarah Palin: The un-Obama
Politico ^ | 12/2/10

Posted on 12/02/2010 5:03:37 AM PST by earlJam

Sarah Palin is the un-Obama. That’s why she’s a political force, though she’s way beyond her 15 minutes of fame. That’s also why she’s a contender in 2012.

Barack Obama is a prince of the meritocracy. Palin is queen of the north woods.

Why does this matter? Because in presidential politics, opposites rule. If voters are unhappy with Obama, Republicans have to offer them the un-Obama. That’s a role Palin fits perfectly.

Obama has degrees from Columbia University and Harvard Law School.

Palin attended four colleges in six years before earning her bachelor’s degree from the University of Idaho. Obama was president of the Harvard Law Review. Palin was a runner-up for Miss Alaska.

Does she really wield populist power? Look at what happened on “Dancing With the Stars.” Palin’s supporters kept her daughter Bristol in the running all the way to the end. They turned a TV talent contest into a political event.

So now, here’s Palin — the un-Obama, at the top of GOP preference polls for 2012. But not by much (1 point above Mitt Romney in the November Quinnipiac University Poll). She’s the first choice of Republicans without a college degree. Romney’s the first choice of college graduates — the “country club” wing of the party.

Romney may not be so easy to nominate. There’s the Mormon problem:

Romney didn’t carry a single Southern primary in 2008. And the health care problem: He signed health care reform into law in Massachusetts.

But Palin would not be easy to elect. She may be the un-Obama — but two-thirds of the nation’s voters do not think Palin is qualified to be president, according to an October Washington Post-ABC News poll. (Even tea party supporters are split.)

Does the GOP have a different un-Obama who could stop Palin in 2012?

Maybe.

That’s why there’s so much interest in New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

Politico is the Hillary wing of the Rat party. They certainly wouldn’t want Hillary to run against Palin for many, many reasons. Obama won’t be running in ‘12.

prince of the meritocracy.

Oh please 0 got what where he is by Affirmative Action favoritism. If he truly had to compete on merit he'd be the prince of mediocrity.

Article is full of hate.

Palin is 100X smarter than Obama.

Obama got Harvard Law Review on what grounds? People can’t even see his grades.

Obama has likely never been camping, fishing or shot clays. If someone insulted his family and deserved to be punched out, it is doubtful that would happen.

Could Obama start a campfire? Can the guy ski? Ride a horse? Play tennis? Or is smoking a cigarette and bouncing a basketball it?

You are 100% correct about our dear leader but what does anything on your list have to do with being qualified to be POTUS?

Rush didn’t think this through.

I’m sure Rush’s friends retorted,
“That’s why we are afraid of Palin. If we nominate her
we will surely have 4 more years of Obama.”

I admire Palin greatly. One day I think she could win, and then some days I get cold feet. But if she ever has a chance to become president it is in 2012. If she wins in the primaries, then she has earned the right to go after the creep.
I just want someone who loves this country to be our president, and I haven’t found anyone who loves it more than Sarah Palin.

My point?

Not a well rounded person. The lessons learned in being an outdoorsman are definitely applicable to being President: perseverance, patience, mental/physical toughness, ingenuity, ability to focus, planning ahead, teamwork, timing, getting the job done.

I could go on.

We should never have a President with no military background. We should never have a President with undeveloped inner philosophy of life/morals. We should never have a President who has not stood up to a challenge, been tested, tried to accomplish something. We should never have a President who is allowed to hide in the shadows.

What’s the purpose of the map.

You do realize that only Vermont and Wyoming have fewer people than Alaska, don’t you?

Obama’s the New America — multiculturalism and change. Palin’s the Old America — simple faith and patriotism.

Uh, no, Mr. Schneider. Obama's the New Progressive. The "New America" you refer to has been rammed down our throats.

Obama is respected by intellectuals. Intellectuals have contempt for Palin — and she for them.

I share Ms. Palin's contempt for them.

So now, here’s Palin — the un-Obama, at the top of GOP preference polls for 2012. But not by much (1 point above Mitt Romney in the November Quinnipiac University Poll). I don't think I've ever seen a more profound misreading and mischaracterization of the electorate. This pinhead professor at George Mason doesn't get what Sarah Palin clearly does. She understands history and where we came from. He does not. 'Pod.

I get a kick out of the whole ‘unelectable’ theme.

The media along with the establishment elites of both parties spend all their time trashing Sarah, then they take a poll of people admittedly not really paying attention (”independents” -yeah, right) and print that she is not popular.

A self fulfilling prophecy, if ever their was one. Their polling is done to reinforce their narrative. I wonder just how many ‘polls’ they take before they get the result they want to publish.

Sarah has shown that once the campaign actually begins, and people are paying attention, they find they like her a lot.

No, they don’t like the false caricature being advanced, but in seperate polls, it shows that the majority of Americans agree with her stands on the issues, by a wide margin.

She is not the inexperienced dim bulb she is portrayed to be, which is obvious to anyone who has read her or studied her record. She will have plenty of opportunity to set the record straight.

When she does, and people see how unjustly she has been maligned, I’m sure their reaction will be similar to mine and most of her supporters. We are outraged that such a decent and solid conservative can be trashed so unfairly, and recognize the establishments attacks are on what we believe...this tends to strengthen our resolve. (an understatement)

If she runs she will win the nomination in a cakewalk, and the presidency in a landslide. They ALL know this and that has them terrified, and has me very excited about her candidacy.

Apparently, bashing Sarah is his entire life. You did notice that he threw in a brief jab at Romney, didn’t you? That was probably a defensive move, lest anyone think that as virulently anti-Sarah as he is, he may be a secret “mitten”.
You’ve got to give him credit for that.

Obama may have a degree from Columbia, but there is virtually no evidence, other than the degree itself, that he ever went to school there. It is speculated that the Columbia degree is bogus, procured for him by prominent progressives and/or Islamists in order to pave his way into Harvard Law.

You do realize that Alaska has unique challenges because of its size, geography, and natural resources, along with its heavy federal and military presence?

Right troll?
