Once youve made a promise to U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez, its a bad idea to break it. Because if you do, hell call you on it, and then hell broadcast your perfidy incessantly, with every megaphone he can get his hands on, to anyone who will listen. Just ask President Barack Obama, who failed to keep his word on tackling immigration reform in his first year in office. Though the two Chicago Democrats were once close, Gutierrez has spent much of the past two years badgering the president on the issue. He was clear in his commitment to me, says Gutierrez. And yet everything has been enforcement, enforcement, enforcementmore deportations of undocumented immigrants, more troops |on the border. How, asks Gutierrez, is this different from what George W. Bush did?
Gutierrez, 56, is the most passionate, tireless, and nettlesome voice in Congress on immigration matters. Hes a constant presence at rallies and on TV, defending the undocumented and railing against xenophobia. Its no surprise that a recent Pew Hispanic Center survey ranked him the second-most-important Latino leader in the country, after Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. Hes as close as the Latino community has to a Martin Luther King figure, says Frank Sharry, founder of the pro-immigrant group Americas Voice. Yet Gutierrezs tactics are controversial. While many admire his tenacity and credit him with keeping immigration reform alive, others, including members of the Obama administration, believe his confrontational style can be counterproductive. He sees things more simply. I have only one loyalty, he says, and thats to the immigrant community.
Rep. Luis Gutierrez is a hero to many Hispanics.

Why should the immigrant Communist always be at the
front of the line?
How much of American’s greatness must go down
for these traitors?
If you're loyalty isn't to the United States, then perhaps we should deport you too.
And 99.9% of all the other democrats.
“As a result, Gutierrez is trying to redirect its energy toward a different end: persuading Obama to use his executive powers to stop the deportation of law-abiding illegal immigrants.”
How in the world is an illegal immigrant law-abiding?
get me to the next Congress with the smallest damage done. Like Rush said what part of Hell No doesn’t the GOP don’t understand.
We need to deport or imprison ALL illegal aliens, including their anchor babies, seal/secure the border with a fence and wall, and have a lethal response to all who try to re-enter illegally.
I figured this was a fiction piece with a title like that. Keep hussein obama to his word? Can't be done, he lies, constantly. Sometimes I wonder if he is lying just because he no-longer knows how to tell the truth, and is becoming ever-more disconnected from reality. (ie. the path Nancy Pelosi has apparently pioneered)
Knife fight, pendejo?
I'm tired of this domestic enemy coddling.
You are trying to kill us and America. This is a fight to the death. Might as well make it obvious.
They are not undocumented immigrants. They are illegal aliens. To call them immigrants implies that they have a right to be here.
Shouldn't his "one loyalty" be to the United Staes of America?
Afterall, we're writing his f**king paycheck!
Gee when my great-great-grandfather came over to the US, from Germany and went through the Port Of New York in 1860, he was shortly thereafter 1861 encouraged to join the uS Military, no automatic citizenship was granted and he fought and survived the Civil War. My great grandmother was born in 1867 in Wisconsin. When my great grandfather came to this country in 1881, he applied for citizenship 1st papers. he than moved to northwestern Wisconsin where both were married in Dunn County.
Citizenship is a privilege, it is not right. What has happened to the issue of obtaining citizenship through a proud tradition. This entire modern immigration issue is out of control. I know first hand because I have a niece whom has given birth to 2 anchor babies whose father is an illegal immigrant from Mexico. She has abused the welfare system for a total of 3 children and gets everything that is imaginable in Wisconsin for the children. She does not work and just collects benefits upon benefits. Where is the illegal immigrant father, working in some restaurant in Milwaukee and fathering more and more anchor babies! This really ticks me off!
So much for the oath he was supposed to have taken.
