WikiLeaks cables tell the story of an empire in decline
Ha'aretz ^ | 01 December 2010 | Aluf Benn

Beyond the gossip, the indiscretions and the petty lies, the cables released by WikiLeaks tell a sad story. They depict the fall of the American empire, the decline of a superpower that ruled the world by dint of its military and economic supremacy. President Barack Obama emerges from the cables as a weak, flimsy leader, whose good intentions and lofty visions dissipate like dust in the wind in the face of the conservatism and stubbornness of his Middle Eastern counterparts.

The days when American ambassadors were received in world capitals as "high commissioners" are long since gone. The diplomats who wrote the WikiLeaks documents are tired bureaucrats: Nobody rises in their honor and clicks their heels when they enter a room. They spend their days listening wearily to their hosts' talking points, never reminding them who is the superpower and who the client state that needs military or financial aid from America.

who the client state that needs military or financial aid from America

The author is a retard. Empires do not provide military and financial aid to their provinces - they require tribute and military levies from their provinces. The combination of mandatory tribute and large-scale participation in the empire's wars (not the measly token efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan) was why empires tended to break apart.

I know it’s true but still it makes me sad to read that.

Here let’s lighten things up a bit...

We know whose side 0's on... look at him wearing his gift from the Saudi king.

The whole world declines as this imposter/poser without a birth certificate or paper trail is allowed to continue.

Would you trust this man with $60 Billion worth of our highest tech weapons??? Obama does.

...

"One Arab leader echoes Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by likening Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Hitler."

...

"Yet Netanyahu is quoted as warning that should Iran get the bomb despite U.S.-led efforts to curb its uranium enrichment, Arab powers could shift loyalties from Washington to Tehran."

...

Netanyahu is also a student of history and also sees its similarities between Iran and Hitler. We know whom the islamists favored and allied. Birds of a feather. If we don't learn from history...

What? "Over"?
Did you say "over"?
Nothing's over until we decide it is!
Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
Hell, no!
And it ain't over now.
'Cause when the going gets tough...
...
...
the tough get going! Who's with me?
Let's go! Come on!

Does the word “cables” tell the world how behind the times the USA really is?

I’m with you!

It ain’t over ‘til it’s over! And, I don’t see that for this country. Not yet, anyway.

The Saudi King is one who wants Iran’s nuke program stopped, but all Obama wanted to talk about is the peace process with Israel and the Palestinians.

It’s not that Obama is on any side...it’s just that with all of his supposed degrees, his supposed high intellect, and his supposed savvy...he just can’t seem to see the forest for the trees.

Well, (outside of rampant voting corruption in some electoral districts) it IS what the majority of American voters chose in 2008, but for which I am sure many of them now have a serious sense of “buyers remorse” by putting this Destroyer and Imposter in power in Washington.

Wishy-washy collides with two hardpoints--(mostly Judeo-Christian)Conservatism and Islam.

We weren't intended to be an Empire, if one looks back, only a Republic.

Yup

People who make such remarks have no business thinking of themselves as "conservatives."

What soldier goes into a war telling his fellow soldiers, "We're beat?" One who isn't worthy of the title of "soldier," or a rank traoitor, a propagandist for the enemy, that's who.

Please, get with it or get out. You're certainly not helping anyone by being such a cynic.

Now then: America is Dead! Long Live America!

(People who make such remarks have no business thinking of themselves as “conservatives.”)

Those of us that know not history and America’s propensity to follow those mistakes should not throw stones at those of us who can see it. You sir are a dreamer and a wisher. Until “people who make such remarks” can accept what we are doing to ourselves, are surely going to be part of the problem and not part of the solution. What is going on is serious and you sir are not! Thank you for your rude comment.
